Most of you haven't played my favorite game of 2024, but now there's no excuse

It's September already, somehow. I don't know how this happened, but it's high time we started thinking about the best PC games we've played this year. Blue Prince is right up there for me, I still need to play Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and I'm holding my breath for Hades 2's full release later this month. However, it's come to my attention that not enough of you have played 1000xResist - you heathens. A sci-fi thriller with plenty of present-day inspiration, this stone cold banger is currently on sale on Steam. So now you need to play it.

I was going to say that you need to play 1000xResist if you haven't already, but that's wrong. You need to play it even if you've already played it. I'm loading it up right now. I don't doubt there are countless things I've missed, references and pieces of dialogue that hit harder now I know how it all ends.

I'm not exaggerating when I say this is one of the best RPGs I've ever played. Generally, it's narrative heavy and mechanics light, but there are sections that switch from open world exploration to third-person flight sequences. You walk through storyboard flashbacks and make difficult decisions as the reality of your, well, reality is revealed to you.

I'm being deliberately vague here, because you don't want this game spoiled for you. As someone who plays hundreds of games a year and loves to champion indie RPGs, this is worth your time.

1000xResist is currently 30% off on Steam as a part of the Fellow Traveller sale. One of my favorite publishers in recent years (alongside Critical Reflex), there are countless gems you can pick up for a pittance this week.

Four people hang suspended in the air as the alien Occupant opens its arms wide, the main antagonist in 1000xRESIST, one of the best indie games.

Check out Paradise Killer if you like surreal detective games, Genesis Noir if you're into jazz-infused adventures, and Citizen Sleeper if you like videogames in any shape or form. The latter was my game of the year in 2022, by the way. Slay the Princess. Pine: A Story of Loss. Hacknet. Fellow Traveller doesn't miss. I'm also looking forward to Wander Stars, an anime turn-based RPG that releases later this week.

1000xResist is on sale for $13.99 / £11.72 until Monday, September 29, but I recommend you check out the whole Fellow Traveller sale for more bargains. You can find it here.

If you like any of the games I've mentioned here, check out our list of the best indie games for more bangers. For more like 1000xResist specifically, our picks of the best story games will suit your needs.

If you want personalized recommendations, hit me up in our community Discord server, where staff and readers discuss all our favorite games. Now stop reading and install 1000xResist.
