Kentucky Bourbon Lemonade
Fresh lemonade is a must for summer and this Kentucky Bourbon Lemonade is something I look forward to making when the dog days of summer arrive.
This grown-up version of lemonade is so cool and refreshing and the bourbon totally enhances and complements the flavor of the lemons. Plus it’s super easy to make.
My paternal grandfather was from Louisville, Kentucky and he grew mint in his yard to use for Mint Juleps. Whenever I drink a bourbon cocktail, it reminds me of him. I wish I could share one of these Kentucky Bourbon Lemonades with him.

Ingredients Needed
For this recipe you’ll need-
Granulated Sugar
Mint Leaves– I grow a big pot of mint during the summer months so I always have plenty of mint on hand. You will need some for the simple syrup and to garnish the glasses.
Fresh Lemon Juice
Bourbon
Ginger Ale or Sprite
Type of Bourbon To Use
Since you are mixing the bourbon with other flavors, you don’t need to use an expensive bourbon, but you do want a good quality bourbon. I typically use Maker’s Mark, but Four Roses and Woodford Reserve are great options as well.
This recipe makes a pitcher full which you can pour into individual glasses. I use cocktail glasses or small water glasses, but Mason Jars are a fun way to serve this Kentucky Bourbon Lemonade.

IngredientsMint Simple Syrup½ cup granulated sugar½ cup water½ cup mint leavesRemaining Ingredients1 cup fresh lemon juice½ cup bourbon2 cups ginger alemint leave for serving
InstructionsPlace the granulated sugar, water, and mint leaves in a small saucepan. Bring to a simmer for 2 minutes and then remove from heat and let steep for 15 minutes.Pour through a strainer set over a glass measuring cup or bowl and press on the mint leaves with the back of a spoon to get all the liquid out.Refrigerate until needed.In a pitcher stir together the simple syrup, lemon juice, and bourbon.Add ginger ale just before ready to serve.Fill glasses with ice and then fill with lemonade. Garnish with mint.
