Supervive ditches gacha-esque Prisma and reworks Armory, learning from LoL

Supervive had so much promise. As someone who's fallen off of the League of Legends bandwagon in 2025, Theorycraft's multiplayer brawler really did feel like the next big thing. That, however, hasn't been the case. While it sits at an impressive 81% on Steam, its player count has steadily declined, falling from a respectable 47,000 at launch to anywhere between 3,000 and 1,000, with the trend line going down instead of up. The game's Armory has come under fire consistently, with its randomized lootbox progression system doing more harm than good. But Theorycraft has heard your concerns, and has completely reworked the system - question is: is it too late?

As Aaron breaks down beautifully, Supervive's Armory simply didn't work. In order to score top-tier gear, you needed Prisma, an in-game, fully farmable resource. While this differs from rival MOBA League of Legends' Ancient Sparks, which require real-life purchases, Prisma required a lot of grinding, and a portion was also lost upon death. Additionally, each new season came with a reset, meaning you'd lose all of your Armory items either way. If you're a hardcore player that's all great, but if you're playing more casually, you'd probably find yourself asking 'what's the point?'

But rejoice fellow Supervivers (?), the Armory is undergoing a significant rework. Prisma? A thing of the past. Star tiers? Yeet 'em and delete 'em. Patch 1.04 might be exactly what the brawler needs, but is it enough to save it? That, right there, is the question.

So let's start off with item drops. The original gacha-esque lootbox system has been scrapped entirely, with items now unlocking as part of the Hunter's Journey onboarding quests. Theorycraft says that all items will be available to players by level 20, which coincidentally is when you can start playing ranked. As a result, Prisma has been removed entirely, and you'll get better items as you level up.

If you've been an active Prisma grinder, however, Theorycraft is giving you some free drops for participating in the Armory's launch. There's the 'Prisma' Callsign, two new avatars, and 90 VP (in-game currency), and you can expect these to deliver later in patch 1.04's lifecycle.

Seasonal Armory resets are also a thing of the past, allowing you to keep your hard-earned gear. Some items may be added and removed, but anything new will be transferred to your existing collection automatically. Season 2 will see "more than a dozen" new goodies join the roster, including a new grip that increases knockback length by 30%, and a new relic that lets you superhero land on your enemies, detonating a shockwave that knocks back and deals damage.

Finally, star tiers have also been removed, meaning that everyone gets the same item at the same level (they're now all "balanced at approximately a two-star level"). "We saw the power level of some three-star items starting to have a warping effect by overly decreasing TTK and flattening the feel of combat," Theorycraft writes, noting that some items may undergo more significant changes if required.

All of this is music to my ears. As someone who really isn't the biggest fan of randomized lootbox rewards - especially when they're a core part of progression - the Armory system never really made much sense to me. I've bounced off of League of Legends because of how 'gachafied' I feel that it's become; I really didn't need more gacha mechanics in my life. Overall, these changes feel positive, and they'll hopefully make the game more accessible to newer, more casual players; I've got a LoL-shaped void to fill, maybe Supervive can finally manage that.

Supervive patch 1.04 is slated to arrive on Wednesday, September 17. You can check out the full blog post here.
