With GTA 6 chugging along the road to release, Rockstar has largely left Red Dead Redemption 2 in the proverbial dust. The spectacular Wild West tale has been on the back burner since 2022, with just one bone thrown our way recently courtesy of its Strange Tales of the West update. But modders haven't slowed down, and one fan-created project has just achieved the impressive feat of making RDR2 look even better than it already did. The innocuously named 'Catalogue Improvements' mod is a sweeping overhaul to the game's wardrobe with fixes, upgrades, and even some new items, and it's a must have.
Seven years on from launch, Red Dead Redemption 2 is still one of the most beautiful open-world games around. But that only makes the small issues more jarring. Clothing placement and clipping issues are notoriously tough to solve, especially in a game with so many options for outfit customization. That's precisely where this latest mod steps in, however, dramatically reducing these problems while also delivering additional features.
Catalogue Improvements is a bulky project, created by 'iAbokai' and 'Suika' with assistance from 'Kristiand3,' 'Pixiev,' 'Xuruthor,' and 'Boah1907.' It delivers "fixes and improvements to a considerable amount of clothing items by reducing clipping, making clothes more reactive, and adding a bit of variety to the wardrobe, even bringing new items into the catalogue for players to purchase."
The difference is immediately apparent; gloves no longer dissolve into your wrists, scarves fall over your bandolier rather than clipping straight through them, and straps sit neatly against your character's body. For a game that prides itself on realism and attention to detail, this overhaul is a massive cherry on top of the already delicious cake. You'll find plenty of additions, such as lanterns, extra glove styles, and additional bow ties. There are even a selection of brand-new outfits.
The mod's creators have also given John Marston a bit more attention, tweaking his appearance "with the hopes of making him look less like an Arthur Morgan clone and more like himself." Unused and beta assets have been restored and polished, and you'll find some fresh hair options that have been tweaked to better fit his "unique head model."
Even horses get a little love; those you own can now have horseshoes and a rifle holster on their saddle. "We could tell you more about the other changes we made," the mod team teases, "but we want to keep them as a surprise for you. We've already shown you the most important features of this project, so all we ask is that you enjoy the mod and have a great time."
You can get Catalogue Improvements right here via Nexus Mods. If you want to go a step further, you'll find co-creator iAbokai's 'Extended Player Animations' mod linked in the description.
It seems unlikely that we'll be seeing the Grand Theft Auto 6 release date for PC any time soon, so this might just get me to saddle up and return to one of the best Western games ever made.
