Inside 3 of the Chicest Cafés in America—and the Design Ideas You'll Want to Steal

There’d be no cafécore without the aesthetic cred of the best-looking cafés. From warm woods and cozy corners to pink and gold with walls of plants, there's no shortage of great café design.

Because coffeehouses aren’t just about caffeine—they’re about crafting an environment in which every latte, pastry, and pattern feels like part of the story. Step inside and you’ll find Parisian charm in Boston, pastel Art Deco whimsy in Florida, and a glass-walled English garden in Wisconsin—all ready to inspire your next design refresh.

Tatte Bakery & Café

Tatte Bakery in Washington, D.C.

No wonder Tatte Bakery has locations all along the Eastern Seaboard. Stepping inside is like slipping into a light-filled Parisian patisserie, thanks to mosaic tile floors in cocoa and cream, polished subway tiles that span the walls to the ceiling, branch cuttings and dried herbs aplenty, and burnished woods that glow like drizzled honey in the sunlight.

The earthier materials balance the cooler-toned industrial materials, making an otherwise clinical palette feel cozy, not stark. Their carmelized kouign-amann pastries (inspired by the originals from Brittany, France), are legendary, as is the honey halva latte crowned with cloudlike microfoam. Bring home a tonal Francophile fantasy with blue and white striped tea towels, bistro chairs, mosaic mugs, and classic dome or barn lights.

Paradeco Coffee Roasters in St. Petersburg, FL

A fever dream of pastel hues and Art Deco lines, Paradeco is akin to Wes Anderson on a much-deserved vacay to St. Petersburg, Florida. There are banquettes in the shade of a flamingo, a wallscape bursting with ferns and other foliage, and curved furniture at every turn. The locally made kimchi potato hash is an Instagram darling topped with an edible flower. To drink, you want the Coco Coffee, whirled with organic coconut cream, ceylon cinnamon and housemade Peruvian mocha syrup.

Bring home the feel with fluted detailing on your furniture, graceful geometric wallpaper in metallics and pastels, and enough verdant foliage to imbue an air of humidity—at least evoke it emotionally.

The Greenhouse

Greenhouse Cafe in Kohler, WI

Call it the Brit Box: an actual antique solarium transported across the pond from England’s Lancashire county, now rebuilt—and dazzlingly reborn—as the ultimate slow morning setup in Kohler, Wisconsin. As leafy as ever, the interior here is a botanical daydream chockablock with potted palms, rattan seating, slate floors and stained glass walls that blur indoors and out. A sweet cardamom latte with local honey, and a wellness-encouraging Greenhouse smoothie stocked with spirulina and collagen (Ms. Paltrow would no doubt approve.)

To get the look, layer lush and leafy botanicals, marble-topped bistro tables, classic cane and black chairs, and glimmering glass accessories until your living room feels like a conservatory.
