What's in the rumored new Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 Super gaming GPU? Several leaks now point to a new high-end Nvidia graphics card coming out soon, with 50% more VRAM than the existing RTX 5080, and possibly much faster memory speeds too. In this guide, we take a look at the rumored RTX 5080 Super specs, as well as speculation about the price and launch window.
As I found in my RTX 5080 review, this $999 Nvidia gaming GPU is potent enough to have a place on our guide to buying the best graphics card, but its 16GB of VRAM held it back in some high-end tests, such as running Indiana Jones and the Great Circle at 4K with path tracing enabled. That problem could be solved in one fell swoop if the RTX 5080 Super rumors are true, as they point to this GPU having a massive 24GB of VRAM.
RTX 5080 Super specs estimate
This is our best estimate for the RTX 5080 Super specs, based on leaks and speculation, as no official announcement has been made.
Rumored 5080 Super specs | |
GPU | GB203-450-A1 |
CUDA cores | 10,752 |
RT cores | 84 |
Tensor cores | 336 |
VRAM | 24GB 36Gbps GDDR7 |
Memory interface | 256-bit |
Memory bandwidth | 1,152GB/s |
Total graphics power | 415W |
Several leaks have now appeared about the RTX 5080 Super, and they all point to this GPU having the same core structure as the existing RTX 5080, but with a different memory configuration. That's because the GB203 GPU used in the RTX 5080 already has all of its parts fully enabled, so making a GPU with more CUDA cores would involve the hassle of either making a new chip or cutting down lots of parts of an RTX 5090.
However, by using the same chip, but with new 3GB GDDR7 VRAM chips, Nvidia can equip the 5080 with 24GB of VRAM without requiring its board partners to change their PCB layouts - it's an easy drop-in replacement. Rumors about a 24GB RTX 5080 have also been circulating for 11 months now, and it looks as though the 5080 Super could be that card.
The first specs leak we saw came from regular, and often-reliable, tech leaker kopite7kimi, who shared the rumored details in a post on X (formerly Twitter). According to this leak, the RTX 5080 Super will come equipped with 24GB of GDDR7 VRAM, and unlike the 30Gbps memory on the RTX 5080, this leak says it will be clocked slightly higher, so it runs at an effective speed of 32Gbps.
However, a later 5080 Super specs leak from YouTuber Moore's Law is Dead stated that Nvidia could furnish this GPU with much faster memory, possibly running at up to 36Gbps. If this is true, we could be looking at a total memory bandwidth of 1,152GB/s with a 256-bit bus - that's even faster than the bandwidth of the last-gen flagship, the RTX 4090.
The leaked specs are otherwise basically identical to those of the standard RTX 5080, with the new GPU apparently based on the same GB203 core GPU as the original 5080, and with the same number of CUDA cores enabled at 10,752. If that's the case, then we can also infer that the RTX 5080 Super has 84 RT cores and 336 Tensor cores, as it will be based on the same core Blackwell architecture as the standard card.
The total graphics power has also apparently increased, though, going from 360W to over 400W, and possibly as high as 415W, if MLID's prediction about 36Gbps VRAM process is correct. Some of this will be covered by the increase in memory clock speed, but it's also possible that the RTX 5080 Super will have a higher clock speed than the standard 5080.
RTX 5080 Super price estimate
Our best estimate for the RTX 5080 Super price is $999, based on speculation and the cost of the RTX 5080 and 4080 Super, both of which also cost $999 at MSRP. It's possible that Nvidia could charge more for this card to cover the cost of fastwe memory, but given that the latest leaks also point to the RTX 5080 being scrapped soon, we think it's likely that Nvidia will try to price the base configurations at the same $999 price as its predecessor.
RTX 5080 Super launch window estimate
Our best estimate for the RTX 5080 Super launch window is Q4 2025, spanning the period from October to December 2025, based on leaks and speculation, as no official announcement has been made.
Several rumors have now pointed to the RTX 5080 Super coming out in 2025. With the aforementioned rumors that Nvidia plans to make the RTX 5080 end of life in October 2025, the company would need its replacement to come out soon after that timeframe.
However, Moore's Law is Dead also suggests that the 5080 Super may not come out until the first quarter of 2026 (January to March), as Nvidia may need to wait until there's a large enough supply of 36Gbps VRAM available to mass-produce the cards.
Of course, as with all tech leaks, this is still very much in the rumor vicinity right now. Nvidia hasn't officially announced the RTX 5080 Super, and it may not even exist.
