Have you been playing Sins of a Solar Empire 2 and wished you had an even bigger selection of massive ships? Then you'll be happy to hear that the game's Reinforcements DLC not only gives you a handful of new, larger vessels, it also adds in several additional ways to win. Now, publisher and co-developer Stardock Entertainment has revealed that the expansion is dropping at the end of September, so you won't have long to wait before you can expand your already imposing armada.
That's not to say that Sins of a Solar Empire 2's Reinforcements DLC will allow you to just steamroller your foes. This space-based 4X game requires a crafty hand, and each of the new vessels has its own strengths and weaknesses, which you'll need to get to grips with.
"The Reinforcements DLC isn't just about adding bigger ships—it's about giving players entirely new ways to think about victory," says Brian Clair, Executive Producer at Stardock.
Dubbed "command ships", Reinforcements' new vessels are larger than capital ships but smaller than titans. There's one command vessel per sub-faction, as follows.
- TEC Enclave: Takadaran Command Fortress (support vessel)
- TEC Primacy: Khevarkov Modular Battleship (customisable strike vessel)
- Vasari Alliance: Sularkon Tyrant (phase-gate equipped ship)
- Vasari Exodus: Anarkrul Wanderer (carrier with heavy fighter support)
- Advent Wrath: Oblivia Dreadnought (heavily armored with super-powerful main weapon)
- Advent Reborn: Justicia Dreadnought (grows more powerful with each enemy defeated)
New ships aside, each faction has its own optional victory conditions. The TEC have to build a planet-killing Novalith cannon, the Vasari need to build an arkship and escape through a star, and the Advent win by converting whole solar systems to their cause.
When we reviewed Sins of a Solar Empire 2, we found there was some fun to be had, remarking that its "frantic, always real-time pace is both a thrill and a significant hurdle." And while we may not have been hooked, there are enough people out there who love Sins of a Solar Empire 2, and are willing to put in the time, for its Steam reviews to hit Very Positive.
However, there's a hint of intergalactic dissent over on Sins' Steam store page. The game's recent reviews have hit Mixed, with some complaining about what they see as new features being sold as DLC.
Sins of a Solar Empire 2: Reinforcements, which will require the base game, arrives this September 25, 2025, priced at $14.99.
