Jagex has been cooking up a storm as of late. Old School Runescape's impressive Varlamore expansion brought with it a boatload of new quests and ways to hone your skills, and conveniently coincided with a small explosion in popularity that has seen the legacy MMO break player records. Keen to keep the momentum going, Jagex has now announced its first limited-time community event, and it's sure to go down a treat with OSRS' demographic. Eyes down, mouse ready, let's play Grid Master.
Taking its trappings from bingo and the ever-popular Leagues, Grid Master is a four-week solo Old School Runescape event that will have you start on a fresh character in one of the best MMOs, before embarking on your journey across Gielinor. However, there's one major twist that comes in the form of a 7×7 grid that's filled with various challenging objectives. These range from taking down bosses and completing quests, to grinding out minigames and leveling up your skills.
Completing a tile will give you a big ol' progression boost, which can include "player-favorite relics" from Leagues, the auto-completion of entire questlines, or, if you're really lucky, a bush that spawns Twisted bows. Things get really gnarly when you complete a line, though Jagex has only specified that you're in for "all kinds of crazy powerups and previous Leagues items."
Suffice it to say, the real challenge in Grid Master lies in the order in which you clear its objectives. Is there a line that's simple for the majority of its tasks, but will have you take a trip to the Fight Caves? Maybe it's better to suck it up and go for the one that requires Runecrafting instead? Who am I kidding? I'd take 30 reps of Jad over Runecrafting any day.
Regardless of the path you take, you'll want to clear through as many lines as possible. Doing so rewards you with Grid Points, which can be used to redeem some pretty sick cosmetics within the main game. The Grid Tabard, Grid Swords and Emblem, and my personal favorite, the Login Screen Chapel Cosmetics based on the iconic Flames of Lloigh-enn, will all be community polled - you can check them out in the blog here. The goodies that make it will be made purchasable in the future, similarly to the Leagues rewards, so don't worry if you miss out this time around.
Old School Runescape Grid Master kicks off on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, and will run until Tuesday, November 12, 2025. A membership is required to experience the event in full, but Jagex has made a handful of challenges available to free-to-play 'scapers on separate worlds.
Beyond Grid Master, Jagex plans to add a permanent bingo system to Old School Runescape proper, sans all of the juicy power ups. I can see this being a great way to give players some direction, because the choice paralysis is very often real when you have so much content to get through.
