The redemption of No Man's Sky following its opinion-splitting launch was certainly impressive, but Hello Games didn't stop there. Over the past nine years, it's continued to upgrade and evolve the space game in major, meaningful ways. The latest iteration of that is No Man's Sky Voyagers, which is focused on a total overhaul to ships. It allows you to build a spacecraft with a complete, functional interior that you and your friends can live and work in as you fly across the stars. Combined with a hefty Steam sale discount, it's got the sandbox game taking off on Valve's platform once more.
No Man's Sky 6.0 launched on Wednesday August 27, delivering the Voyagers update and, with it, the new 'Corvettes.' This buildable ship type is big and customizable, able to be "arranged to your own unique sci-fi design" right down to the working interior. It's a major change to one of the best space games around, one that Hello Games describes as "one of the biggest undertakings for our little team" due to it requiring reworks of almost every surrounding part of the game.
The appeal of the Corvettes is immediately apparent, even if you're playing alone. Being able to walk around your ship completely transforms the feel of being an adventurer. On a more practical level, having what's essentially a hyper-mobile, functional base that you can bring with you anywhere you go is a tremendous value add that makes exploration far more convenient.
Hello Games founder Sean Murray adds that the tech in development here will also be used in the studio's next project. While we're unlikely to get a Light No Fire release date for some time, he explains that the update both "opens up a whole new path for the future" for No Man's Sky and will enhance what's eventually possible in Light No Fire.
So far, Voyagers has already begun to take effect, with tens of thousands of players strapping on their space suits for another trip beyond the atmosphere. Combined with a big Steam sale discount that means you can currently grab one of the best sandbox games on PC at a 60% saving, it's brought the concurrent player count up to a peak of over 29,000, the highest seen since the similarly transformative Worlds Part 2 update.
No Man's Sky Voyagers is out now, and the game is 60% off on Steam through Monday September 8, meaning you'll pay just $23.99 / 19.99 for your copy. Head here if you're ready to start a new intergalactic journey.
