A few tweaks can turn a gear-focused action RPG like Diablo into something that feels like an entirely new style of game. While Path of Exile 2 and Last Epoch offer experiences similar to Diablo 4, the series has also inspired shooters ranging from Destiny 2 and Outriders to The Division 2 and Borderlands 4. Still, there's something to be said for the demon-slicing and faux-medieval European dungeon-crawling that also gives Diablo some of its charm. A new game called Daimon Blades looks to channel all of these elements into a first-person roguelike hack and slash that serves as a spin-off for cult classic RPG Eye: Divine Cybermancy. And you can try it for yourself very soon.
Daimon Blades is an action RPG game played out in a grim world with the aesthetics and customization of Diablo 4 and a roguelike twist. It casts you as a warrior monk out to take revenge on your mentor, who's fled to a demon-filled temple to perform a nefarious magic ritual.
Playing either alone or in groups of four, your monk acquires weapons powered by demonic entities with their own ability sets and statistics. As you kill enemies, their blood further strengthens your weapons, allowing you to unlock new powers that persist from run to run. The game's Steam page notes, though, that these weapons possess a "corruptive nature [that] should never be underestimated."
Daimon Blades also serves as a kind of follow-up to 2011's Eye: Divine Cybermancy, a cult classic first-person RPG game well regarded for its unique design and infamous for its dense, often confusing, systems and narrative. The connection between these games likely isn't so strong that it will be hard for new players to jump into Daimon Blades, as the new project is set two millennia before Eye takes place.
Daimon Blades launches in Early Access on Wednesday September 3, 2025. You can find more details or add it your wishlist right here.
