There are a lot of narrative heavy space games out there, but they don't always stress realism in their storytelling and settings. Mass Effect, Starfield, and Dead Space allow players to explore fantastical research stations and strange planets far away from Earth, though more realistic sci-fi games are usually the province of simulators and strategy games. Lunar Strike wants to provide a story-led experience that also models what it would be like to realistically try to survive in space, and its design approach seems promising, based on its recent debut.
Set on our moon in the far future, Lunar Strike is a space game that stars an astronaut attempting to collect evidence of a human colony that's in the midst of being destroyed. Rather than fight across the devastated lunar setting, you're tasked with simply trying to survive while archiving documents before time runs out.
This involves whatever's necessary to stay alive as oxygen depletes, the colony's habitat systems fail, and your suit runs low on power. Lunar Strike features difficult decisions regarding what to keep or discard from the colony as well as systems for reconstructing prior events and scanning documents. Its Steam page highlights that the game is, above all, "grounded in real science," with its "environments, orbital mechanics, and survival systems … modeled on current lunar research."
Lunar Strike doesn't have a launch date yet. You can find more details or wishlist it on Steam, though, by heading right here.
