13 years after its reveal, sci-fi horror game Routine is back and launching soon

All the way back in 2012, a studio called Lunar Software announced Routine, a sci-fi horror game in the vein of Alien Isolation, Soma, or a futuristic Outlast. It was initially planned to launch in 2013. Over the many years that have passed since, it's gained a Half-Life 3 style reputation for being another highly anticipated game that may never actually see the light of day. Today, though, Routine surfaced once again, returning with a new trailer and, most importantly, a fast approaching launch window.

Routine doesn't seem to have strayed far from its original vision of an outer space horror game with a retrofuturist aesthetic. Its new trailer and description still promise a harrowing journey, viewed from a first person perspective, set on a decaying lunar base that's been mysteriously abandoned.

As exploring the base grows deadlier, you'll have to rely on your wits to survive increasing threats. You're equipped with a device called the Cosmonaut Assistance Tool (or CAT) that's used to help find paths to advance through the base, get into computer terminals, or defend against attack. Otherwise, you'll need to run or hide to continue exploring and solving the plot's many mysteries.

The striking art style and atmosphere shown off in the new trailer make Routine look like a compelling experience, and one that should attract an audience beyond those simply curious to finally try it out after waiting for so long.
