You can't keep El Presidente down. Tropico 7 has been confirmed during the 'Xbox at Gamescom' live show, although we'll be waiting a little longer for the strategy game sequel to actually arrive. More gorgeous than Cities Skylines 2 and certainly a lot more laid-back than Frostpunk 2, the Tropico games have always been a treat. Its short teaser features the series' long-time figurehead in a fresh white suit, and he says we'll be returning to the "greatest country on Earth" some time next year.

Tropico 7 brings back the legendary management sim, which has delivered some of the best strategy games over the years, always keeping a cheeky glint in its eye. The satirical series puts you in charge of an island republic, letting you choose whether you'll rule as a feared dictator or a peacekeeping man of the people. Handle infrastructure, build towns and cities, give speeches, and make sure to put some funds aside to ensure your palace looks worthy of your glorious name.

Publisher Kalypso Media promises "the biggest islands ever in the series," across five campaign maps, ten scenarios, and more than 20 sandbox layouts, along with a random map generator. There's even a terraforming feature that will allow you to literally move mountains, redesigning your nation to suit your needs and desires.

We've been due for a new Tropico game for a while now, with Tropico 6 launching back in 2019, although I will admit that the launch of its Return to Nature expansion in March this year did make me think we wouldn't see a proper sequel for a while yet. I'm glad to be wrong, however; look forward to running your own banana republic once again when 2026 rolls around.

Tropico 7 is coming in 2026 to Steam and the Epic Games Store. "Patience, my dear Tropicans," El Presidente concludes, "A ruler never reveals all his cards at once." You can wishlist it here while we wait.

For the time being, you'll have to content yourself with another of the best city-building games in 2025, or maybe one of the best management games instead.

Excited for Tropico 7? What would you like to see in the sunny-shored sequel? Let us know over at the PCGamesN community Discord server, where you can chat about your favorite management sims with thousands of fellow readers.
