There's a sense at the moment that Call of Duty Black Ops 7 could be in for a tough time when put up against Battlefield 6, which is certainly stealing the show so far in the pre-launch hype race. I don't know if Activision is feeling that pressure too, but a new, reliable leak of BO7's release date suggests that it'll be keeping its distance from Battlefield 6. If this report is on the money, then we could see Black Ops 7 land on November 14 - a whole five weeks later than BF6.
I really can't wait for this showdown between Black Ops 7 and Battlefield 6. I'm still feeling the pangs of disappointment from 2021, where we had three genre juggernauts releasing new games at the same time - CoD Vanguard, Battlefield 2042, and Halo Infinite - only for all three of them to be pretty underwhelming. This year though, I'm optimistic we'll come away with a couple of truly brilliant shooters that could end up in our best FPS games list. Battlefield 6's beta has heavily suggested that it's got what it takes, but Black Ops 7 has been pretty quiet in comparison. Things will ramp up next week though with its appearance at Gamescom Opening Night Live, and, ahead of its full reveal, the Black Ops 7 release date has been rumored once again.
Backing up previous information from CoD insider 'GhostOfHope,' Deal Labs' resident leaker 'billbil-kun' says that Call of Duty Black Ops 7 will arrive on Friday, November 14. They also claim that pre-orders will be going live on Wednesday, August 20, the day after its Opening Night Live appearance.
While Call of Duty games tend to release in either the last week of October or the first week of November, we have seen them spill into the second week of November in the past. For example, 2020's Black Ops Cold War came out on November 13. However, this is much later than the launch of the current game, Black Ops 6, which dropped on October 25 last year.
If correct, this means that it'll arrive a whole five weeks after the Battlefield 6 release date, which is set for Friday, October 8. I think this is probably the best-case scenario for both games. Battlefield 6 hype is way higher than anyone could have predicted a few months ago, so I expect a huge rush to play it initially. However, unless BF6 can really get its claws into people, I suspect a bit of fatigue will start to set in after a few weeks, paving the way for Black Ops 7 to be an even more desirable option.
That's just my prediction, and it could pan out completely differently. But either way, it at least gives fans of both series (such as myself) ample time with BF6 before BO7 arrives.
A reminder too that, at the time of writing, you've only got a couple of days left to play the Battlefield 6 beta. If you're diving in for the first time, check out our best Battlefield 6 weapons guide to find out what you should be using in your loadout.
