While recent rumors might suggest that Half-Life 3 may not be as unlikely as we once thought, it's still not here. However, rather than going back to play the first two games again, why not try something new, like Abiotic Factor. This survival game delivers an enjoyable Half-Life-style experience that can be enjoyed solo or with friends. Right now, it's at its cheapest price since the major 1.0 update, so it's a great time to grab it, but you don't have a lot of time.

Combining a classic FPS game like Half-Life with elements from the best survival games might seem a little bit of a mishmash of ideas, but Abiotic Factor proves it can work well. A low-poly visual style oozes with the charm of the era, but modern quality-of-life features, as well as a unique crafting feature, help it stand out as a modern classic in the genre.

Like many great sci-fi adventures, Abiotic Factor sees you and your comrades get trapped in a research facility after an experiment goes wrong and causes a containment breach. Dimensional portals mean that a bunch of otherworldly enemies start springing up all over the place, and you and your fellow scientists have to make your way through the facility in the hopes of escaping.

Even though Abiotic Factor's mechanics make for an exciting multiplayer game, it's still a great solo experience, which is good news for anyone craving something closer to Half-Life. In fact, I preferred playing it alone, as it helped me immerse myself more deeply in the narrative. There's also something pretty cool about feeling like a sole survivor, learning about how to deal with the facility's threats, and finding smart ways to overcome challenges.

After just a year in early access, Abiotic Factor is now feature-packed and fully released, with the game scoring an 'Overwhelmingly Positive' rating on Steam. As we sit and wonder 'what happened to Half-Life 3?' and whether it'll ever finally release, now's the perfect time to grab Abiotic Factor, with the game dropping to just $27.99 / £23.99 on Fanatical, the lowest price it's been since its 1.0 update.

After enjoying Abiotic Factor's science fiction adventure, it's worth checking out our list of the best indie games in case there are any underrated experiences you may have missed out on. Alternatively, you can do what I do and constantly check the upcoming PC games list for any hope that Valve has a sequel on the horizon. Portal 3, please?
