Guacamole may start with avocados, but from there the variations are endless. Some recipes call for cilantro and red onion, while others are as simple as a squeeze of lime juice and a pinch of salt. They're all delicious. To track down the best bowl of guac, we put five well-known recipes to the test. From kitchen pros like Bobby Flay and Ina Garten to stars like Beyoncé and Glenn Powell, there's a guacamole recipe here for every occasion and taste. Some were classic, some surprising, and one earned a permanent spot in my recipe rotation.

Beyoncé's Guacamole Recipe

Beyoncé's guacamole recipe stays pretty true to classic versions with one notable exception. There's no cilantro. Otherwise, the classics are here: avocado, onion, tomato, lime juice, and garlic. Season the dip with salt and pepper. Beyoncé recommends serving the finished guac with corn chip scoops, and I loved this suggestion. The chips stand up well to the chunky guacamole.

Bottom line: This is the perfect guacamole recipe for serving at parties or any time you're feeding a crowd with lots of different tastes. Cilantro can be a polarizing ingredient, but Beyoncé's cilantro-free guacamole recipe ensures everyone will love the finished dip.

Ina Garten's Guacamole Recipe

A few things set Ina's recipe for guacamole apart from other renditions. She swaps in lemon juice for the classic lime and hot sauce for the pepper element. The result is a light and tangy guacamole that's best served with sturdy multigrain chips for scooping. I really liked the addition of diced tomatoes and will absolutely be trying this tip a 5-star reviewer shared: "I love this recipe! Sometimes I don’t have a tomato, so I use 1/2 cup of salsa, and it is still perfect."

Bottom line: Like most of Ina's recipes, this is a foolproof version of a classic dish. If you're new to making homemade guacamole, I recommend you start with this recipe and customize it to make it your own.

Rob Gronkowski's Guacamole Recipe

Super Bowl champion Rob Gronkowski's go-to recipe is a mashup of two fan-favorite game day dips: guacamole and buffalo chicken dip. Start by mashing avocados with lemon juice and salt. Next, add in shredded chicken, buffalo sauce, and crumbled blue cheese. As the football pro told Parade, "It’s good and it’s tasty; especially if you’re from Buffalo, and if you love Buffalo wings, you’re going to love this guacamole." He recommends serving the dip with hearty chips, like Tostitos Scoops. I loved the flavor of this dip mashup but found the texture was best when scooped up with a crisp veggie like carrots or celery sticks. I also liked the way those dippers gave a nod to classic buffalo wings.

Bottom line: If you're looking for an unexpected twist (or simply want to get more protein in), try this creative twist on classic guacamole. And get creative with the dippers! This dip was delicious with both chips and veggies.

Glenn Powell's Guacamole Recipe

Actor Glenn Powell has strong feelings about guacamole. During a recent appearance on First We Feast, Powell had this to say about the classic dip: "You can’t ever do store-bought guac. You gotta go homemade, whether you’re making it or you find a friend to make it." He also shared that he likes to add hot sauce to spice it up (just like Ina!). To test his one-ingredient upgrade, we made a chunky guacamole and added a vinegar-based hot sauce, like Tabasco or Crystal brands. Honestly, I can't believe I haven't thought to add hot sauce to my guac before. It adds just the right amount of spice and tangy acidic flavor.

Bottom line: This is a great hack for jazzing up both purchased and homemade guacamole. Choose your favorite hot sauce and add as much (or as little!) as you like.

Bobby Flay's Guacamole Recipe

This was our tasters favorite guacamole of the day, but be warned: the finished guac is on the spicier side. If you prefer a little less heat, go down on the amount of jalapeno used, and be sure to remove the seeds and internal membranes before dicing (this is where most of the heat of the pepper lives). Flay recommends adding up to 3 tablespoons of canola oil for texture; we found that level to be way too much for the finished dish. Our tasters preferred the texture and flavor of just 1 tablespoon of oil. You can also leave it out completely. The dish is great without it, too. All in all, this is a great take on the classic citrusy guacamole with plenty of flavor from the cilantro, onion, and peppers.

Bottom line: This guacamole recipe is a homerun. We couldn't get enough of the bright citrusy flavor and building heat. If you're making it at home, start with just a touch of oil and increase slowly till you're happy with the consistency.
