I've said it before and I'll say it again, there's nothing better than being able to pilot your own ship through a vast, virtual galaxy. In my humble opinion, it's a quintessential part of creating a space game, and it's something that Keepsake Games' Jump Ship promises in droves. Packed with enough FPS action to rival the likes of Helldivers 2, the co-op space game is trying to capture the intergalactic scale of its adventure with a snazzy new rebrand, which of course includes a fresh title: Jump Space.
The newly anointed Jump Space looks like it's set to capture all of the fun of jetting off into space in your own spaceship. Part of the allure, however, is that aforementioned sense of adventure - it's the thing that held Starfield back, but is what makes Jump Space a real contender for a spot on our list of the best space games.
There's everything from on-foot exploration and first-person space walks to dogfights amongst the stars can be done solo, or with up to three friends in co-op. The chaotic FPS action is reminiscent of the likes of Helldivers 2, and we all remember how much fun that was this time last year.
"We've decided to officially name our co-op space epic 'Jump Space', and we can't wait to launch," says Daniel Kaplan, CEO of Keepsake Games. "We are excited to offer players a way to experience the ultimate space exploration fantasy as they board their very own ship and slingshot into space. As excitement around the game has been building exponentially, so too has our scope and ambition for what is possible for the future of the game - Jump Space better represents the expanse of this potential."
In Jump Space, you and your crew have to complete a range of chaotic missions as you traverse across the galaxy. Each one is fairly straight-forward: land on a planet, loot it for new weapons, parts, and undiscovered treasures, and then get back to your ship in time for extraction.
You'll need to ensure the survival of your crew and emerge triumphant against waves of enemies in order to succeed, but it looks like the fun, fast-paced FPS will be a blast, and that transition between piloting a ship and first-person certainly has me intrigued.
Jump Space has proven pretty popular, racking up over 500,000 demo players, reaching the top 3 most played demos during the June Steam Next Fest, and surpassing over one million wishlists in anticipation of its launch into early access.
There's no set release date for Jump Space. The game is expected to launch sometime this summer. Here's a handy link to the Steam page in the meantime.
