There's a game that's going under everyone's radar, and despite it being free-to-play, it's criminally underrated already. That game is Terminull Brigade, a fusion of roguelite and looter-shooter action that works incredibly well, and after hours of playing it already, I have already put it up as one of my favorite roguelites, rivalling Hades and Risk of Rain - even if it doesn't beat out the former just yet.

Terminull Brigade is a game that, in my brain, I've been wanting for years. The First Descendant came very close to offering that, but the grind and chase for characters left me hoping that someone would take the essence of the best roguelike games and infuse it with a bit of third-person action. This new PC game is exactly that, and it's as glorious as it is engaging.

Terminull Brigade puts you into the shoes of its various Rogueteers, characters that (like Warframe or The First Descendant) have their own unique abilities. The free PC game then sends you into a variety of levels, each with a set of stages that will see you mow down enemies or fight, for example, shield-bearing tanks that ram at you in lightning speed.

It feels like a pure power fantasy, and it helps that all of the skills feel impactful. I'm tired of indie games that offer a roguelite loop, yet all of the skills found in each run are minor stat boosts. I want raw strength and power, and Terminull Brigade has that in spades. Want to kill every enemy in an area with lightning-infused attacks? Sure, that's possible. How about combining it with a laser beam that comes from the heavens to inflict intense damage? Be my guest.

Terminull Brigade allows you to feel powerful, but it doesn't lack the challenge that makes the entire premise feel underwhelming. Boss battles devolve into gameplay that will put you on the defensive, as you evade and aim for weak points as often as possible. After each successful run, you'll earn progression for your Rogueteer, eventually unlocking new weapons. The free Epic Games Store game also offers you Data Cubes as rewards for your skill, which you can then use to purchase permanent upgrades, allowing you to grow stronger whether your run is successful or not.

It's not without issue. Terminull Brigade does have more microtransactions than I'd like, including a skin system that most gacha game fans will likely be familiar with. You also have a few Rogueteers in the store, as well as one locked to the Season Pass until the next season arrives. However, it doesn't stop the game from being very fun, and I haven't needed to spend any money to feel powerful just yet.

If you're waiting around for those upcoming PC games to drop, and need something to pass the time with, I urge you to give Terminull Brigade a shot using this link. It's a great game, and even if you don't enjoy it, you've not really lost anything by trying it. I have no doubt you'll fall in love with it, though, even if it's mostly the energetic gameplay.
