If you've never played the Happy Death Day-eque video game, Deathloop, now's the time as you can score a generous 82% discount over at Fanatical, bringing the price down to less than $11 / £9. Deathloop cleverly weaves exploration, puzzles, and stealth into a unique and innovative time-looping narrative, which, despite repetition, never gets boring. It's an artfully crafted sandbox of strategy and discovery that's worth diving into.
Like many of the best FPS games, Deathloop is built around a well-baked narrative. You awake on an island with no memory and are forced to relive each day again and again. As Colt, your main focus is to obliterate the loop and get the heck out of dodge. You'll do this by dispatching eight visionaries. As each day resets, you'll relinquish physical items, unless you infuse weapons, leaving you with only the power of your ordinary brain.
But don't get confused, this is no roguelike. Each day runs the same; there are no randomly generated bosses or loot, and this is where strategy is paramount. You must figure out how to kill all the visionaries in one loop across four districts and four different time zones- this is no easy task and will get those brain cogs moving.
While you endeavor to break the cycle, antagonist Julliana can invade multiple times during the same loop. She'll hunt you down like a dog; it's a classic kill-or-be-killed situation, amplifying danger and building suspense. Honestly, I haven't been this anxious since Mr X was after me in RE2. You'll also be able to play as Julianna, invading other players' games, and I love this, it mixes up gameplay, giving you something completely different to do if you need a breather to think over strategy.
In our Deathloop review, Ian Boudreau says, "It uses Dishonored 2 as a starting point to chart a new course for the future of big-budget single-player FPS design, incorporating lessons learned from battle royal games." It has power-based gameplay like Dishonored but is faster and more forgiving. Your slab-based powers make each run more efficient as you learn to harness powers like shift, which is teleportation. Then the weapons trinkets system helps with shooting tooting shenanigans by doing things like reducing recoil.
We're not quite sure when this sale will end, so go to Fanatical now and purchase it while you still can, because this 82% discount is too good to miss out on. You can grab the standard edition for just $10.79/£8.99 and the deluxe edition for $14.39/£11.69.
