This Unexpected Shade Is Dominating Summer—7 Designer Tips for Using Dill Green in Your Home

Dill green has been declared the color of the summer, and experts say it's not hard to see why. "It’s fresh, vibrant, and has this effortless liveliness that feels just right for now," says culinary tastemaker and interiors expert Peter Som on behalf of Benjamin Moore. Making a splash in fashion and interiors this season, dill green delivers the perfect blend of casual familiarity and crisp sophistication.

As it turns out, the garden-inspired green is also surprisingly versatile. It pairs well with a variety of materials and is easy to incorporate in several ways, both big and small. Here's what color experts have to say about the trend and how to use their favorite dill green paint colors to give your indoor and outdoor space a summer refresh.

  • Peter Som is an award-winning fashion designer, culinary creator, and lifestyle expert.
  • Sabrina Soto is an interior designer and BEHR paint ambassador.
  • Lisbeth Parada is the color marketing manager at Dutch Boy Paints and Krylon.

What's Behind the Dill Green Trend?

"I think it’s trending because people are craving more nature-inspired shades that bring a calming, organic feel into their homes," says BEHR paint ambassador Sabrina Soto. The designer compares the color's grounded nature to an olive green tone, but notes it's a bit brighter, which makes it feel uplifting without being too bold. Dill green can serve as an earthy neutral while adding a big dose of personality, which Soto says is the sweet spot when it comes to paint.

Another reason for dill green's popularity is that it aligns with recent nostalgia trends. "At Dutch Boy Paints, we’re seeing a clear shift toward shades that feel nostalgic and effortlessly livable," says Lisbeth Parada, color marketing manager at Dutch Boy Paints and Krylon. The color expert says dill green hues tap into people's craving for familiar comfort. "They echo the tones of herb gardens, late-summer harvests, and backyard blooms which bring a down-to-earth, seasonally fresh energy into the home," Parada says.

Where to Use Dill Green in Your Home

Here’s how to weave this herby hue into every corner of your home with some recommended shades from the experts.

1. Kitchen Walls, Cabinets, or the Island

Given the food-inspired theme of dill green, there's no better place to use it than the kitchen. Som says it would look great on the walls of a sunlit kitchen, layered with natural woods, warm neutrals, and crisp whites. "With so many colors to choose from, you can easily find your perfect dill—some of my favorites being Dill Weed, Chopped Dill, and Dill Pickle," the expert shares.

Green kitchen cabinets have been a popular alternative to classic white in recent years, with dill green offering a stunning option. If that sounds too adventurous, give your kitchen island a quick refresh with a fresh coat of the rejuvenating hue. It'll turn it into a beautiful focal point and create contrast without overwhelming the space.

2. Bathroom Vanity

To bring a little spa energy into your bathroom, Soto suggests painting the vanity in a dill green shade such as BEHR's Trellis Vine or Back to Nature. "It pairs beautifully with warm neutrals, natural wood, and brass or matte black hardware," she says.

3. Old Furniture and Decor

For a more subtle way to incorporate the dill green trend into your space, use the fresh hue to breathe new life into old furniture and decor. Parada's top choice for restoring old pieces is a soft and muted hue, such as Krylon COLORmaxx Satin Pistachio, which features subtle yellow undertones that bridge the gap between traditional neutrals and bold colors. "You can easily revive outdated furniture like chairs, tables, or cabinets, or add a pop of color in decorative accents like frames, vases, or lamps to make a subtle statement in all the right places," Parada says.

4. Entryways, Mudrooms, and Front Doors

Dill green lends itself well to transitional spaces such as entryways and mudrooms. Parada's favorite hue is Dill Delight, a soft, mellow green that she says adds a comforting mood. Use it on the walls, built-in cabinetry, or even accent trim to create a natural bridge between the indoors and the outdoors.

If you want to give your home's curb appeal a quick boost, Soto suggests painting the front door in a dill green shade. It pairs just as well with traditional brass hardware as it does with more contemporary matte black accents. To create a modern yet inviting look, take Som's advice and complete the exterior color scheme with creams and soft taupes.

5. Powder Room Walls

A powder room is one of the best spaces to try out a fun trend or experiment with a bold paint color. The room is small and enclosed, which means paint is not a huge investment and the space doesn't necessarily need to blend in with the surrounding rooms. If you're itching to give your powder room a dramatic makeover, Parada suggests New Crop, which she describes as a confident green that'll give the space personality. For an even bolder approach, Som would layer a dill green paint color with pattern, "Think botanical prints or unexpected graphic textiles for a more modern look."

6. Outdoor Furniture and Decor

"Dill greens can even be used to complement the outdoors by enhancing everyday pieces like planters, garden furniture, or decorative items to evoke a serene outdoor retreat," Parada says. The herb tone seamlessly blends in with outdoor greenery, while adding an updated quality to items like garden stools, plant stands, and Adirondack chairs.

7. Decorative Accents

If you’re not ready for paint, Soto suggests adding touches of dill green through decorative accents. "You can still bring the color in through throw pillows, art, or even dried floral arrangements," the designer says.
