Evercore Heroes Ascension developer Vela Games, a studio including ex League of Legends devs, is rolling out its first major content drop for the early access co-op roguelike, promising an all new game mode, better combat, and the introduction of its latest hero. Having recently enabled the ability to play as a duo, we've teamed up with the studio to dish out Steam keys for you and your plus-one.
Evercore Heroes Ascension is a very different beast to what I remember playtesting a couple years ago. Back then, Vela Games was attempting something ridiculously bold, bringing to the table a new PvEvP experience it was calling MOCO (that's 'Multiplayer Online Co-op,' not the tasty, chocolatey coffee drink). While it was promising, and a lot of thought had gone into how it handled toxicity (that's ex-League of Legends devs for you), there was a lot going on.
In April last year, Vela dramatically changed tact, stripping out the PvP element and reimagining it as what could be one of the year's best roguelike games. Now, you and up to two other pals take on the role of a Luum Sentinel and protect the realm of Lumerea from a sinister force that's attempting to corrupt its magic.
During a run, you'll have to farm monsters, power up, and defeat big ol' bosses. Each procedural mission is different, bringing different threats and upgrade options each time. You can invest resources into a permanent power upgrade system between missions for extra oomph next time around - you know, standard roguelike stuff. One of my favorite aspects is that each session is limited to 30 minutes, ensuring that I can squeeze a second game in on my lunch break.
The Starstruck update takes Evercore Heroes Ascension and dials it up to 11, particularly with new mode The Frozen Path. Promising "longer runs, higher stakes, and way more room to break the game wide open," The Frozen Path puts you and your pals through the wringer as you sprint through all five in-game regions, with the difficulty progressively ramping up as you go. Oh, and there are unique enemy types here, so good luck with those.
The star of the show, though, is new hero Ace Everstar, who gives big Cayde-6 energy. The ultra mobile gunslinger looks to be well worth investing your time into learning should you snag yourself a key.
If Evercore Heroes Ascension sounds perfect for you, drop your deets into the big box below, complete the mandatory entry requirements, and your two keys will automatically appear as long as we have any left.
