Borderlands 4 is no stranger to controversy. After Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford dug a deep, dark hole telling players that they'd cough up the eye-watering $80 price tag if they were "real fans," the developer ended up settling with a more palatable $70. And you thought Claptrap was annoying. Months later, Gearbox has now made another decision that is bound to divide opinion: one pre-order bonus is exclusive to the Epic Games Store. Many PC players prefer to buy their games on Steam, and depriving that loyal fanbase of rewards will undoubtedly stir up discontent.
As we approach the Borderlands 4 release date, fans are eager to hear about any pre-order bonuses they can get their hands on and then, presumably, throw at opponents. That's how looter shooters work, right?
According to leaker 'iFireMonkey,' the bonus in question is the Mad Moxxi Bundle, which actually grants players Borderlands 4-themed items in Fortnite. The bundle appears to include a Moxxi skin, a hammer pickaxe, and what appears to be a tip jar back bling. The leak also includes an image of a Psycho, known from the covers of the Borderlands games, which could potentially be an emoji or spray.
The leaker says that the bundle will also be available to buy in Fortnite, which may relieve the inter-storefront tensions a little. Epic Games Store players get it as a free pre-order bonus, but anyone else can open their wallets to get decked out Moxxi-style if they so wish.
However, it will only be available for purchase from September 29 until October 6, over two weeks after the game releases. If you want your Mad Moxxi skin before anyone else, you know where you'll have to pre-order the game.
