For over nine years now, fans of American Truck Simulator have been riding high in some of the biggest rigs around, precisely carving their way through a shrunken down USA with some precious cargo in tow. However, for the first time, developer SCS Software is adding a GTA 6 flavor to its massively popular driving sim. No longer will you be tied to just trucks, as a new DLC pack will bring some iconic road cars to the game - just don't expect to be robbing banks and hijacking fighter jets anytime soon…

Diversifying a very focused game like American Truck Simulator is a bold move - after delivering the ultimate trucking experience for the best part of a decade, SCS is rolling the dice and broadening its horizons. This is all part of its Road Trip initiative, which is about adding different styles of vehicles to American Truck Simulator and letting players explore the game without the pressure of hauling cargo.

One of Steam's most popular and best simulation games that's spawned countless viral clips over the years, you'll soon be able to hop out of your truck and into one of four road cars. While the highways and backroads of ATS are already populated with dozens of realistic vehicles, this marks the first time you'll actually be able to drive them. SCS has partnered with Ford for the first Road Trip DLC pack, so you'll be able to hop into some of the company's icons from across the years.

The most salivating of the quartet is the 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback. Cruising around a recreation of America in one of these stunning muscle cars sounds good to me - a good warm-up ahead of the GTA 6 release date, even if ATS doesn't yet feature Florida in its sprawling map.

Alongside the Mustang, you'll also get access to the 2023 Ford F-150 pickup truck, the Ford Bronco SUV of the same year, and the timeless Ford Crown Victoria saloon.

SCS says that if you purchase the Ford DLC pack - or any future road car collections, for that matter - then you'll unlock access to its Road Trip experience. This will let you freely explore the entire ATS map, earning postcards when you visit iconic locations. Or, if you find yourself with a hankering to deliver something, you'll still be able to ferry around small packages to customers across the country.

So, even though it may take a while to achieve GTA 6 levels of vehicle diversity, American Truck Simulator is heading on that path. There's currently no release date for the Ford Road Trip DLC, but you can wishlist it now on Steam if you're interested.
