Things have been quiet on the possibility of an XCOM 3 recently, and while it may look like no news will ever arrive for it, there is a tactical RPG waiting to fill that hole in your life. Cyber Knights: Flashpoint successfully launched into 1.0 last month, blending the beloved Cyberpunk 2077 aesthetic with all the strategy goodness of XCOM 2. And now with a 93% positive rating currently on Steam, it looks like the game is gearing up for its next big update, with the reveal of a huge post-launch roadmap.
In Cyber Knights: Flashpoint you build up a squad of mercenaries in a dystopian future where the ecosystem has collapsed. Much like the start of Cyberpunk 2077, you're tasked with completing heists with your crew. It won't be easy to complete your mission, though; like all of the best turn-based RPGs, the combat is in-depth and challenging, requiring careful strategizing. Choose to stay stealthy or go in guns blazing, just as long as you get the job done.
Following its launch in June, a wealth of updates are now expected for this popular tactical game according to the new roadmap, including, but not limited to, modding support, new classes, more storylines, and mission expansions for you to try out. Even better, most of the updates will be completely free.
One of the highlights from the recently revealed roadmap is the upcoming addition of Companion Unit classes. Cyber Knights: Flashpoint already has great customization, with up to 54 possible multiclass combinations currently available in game, allowing you to carefully train and build your crew.
But the introduction of Companion Unit classes will allow you greater control and coordination capabilities with different types of companion units; from managing drones with varying capabilities to directing a pack of cybernetically-augmented warhounds, these new classes will grant you the ability to deepen your bench of mercenary options.
And that's just the tip of the iceberg; modding support is also in the process of being added to the game, with full Steam Workshop support expected alongside a starter pack of mods when it's launched. There might be a bit of wait for this, but in the meantime you can look forward to ongoing content updates expected for enemies, maps, and mission types. So there's plenty incoming to get excited about.
There's currently no set date for a lot of these updates, but you can read more info on the plans for Cyber Knights: Flashpoint in the patch notes here.
