Netease Games is going to massively nerf Wolverine in Marvel Rivals, and it's for the best. The mutant's newest team-up ability in Season 3 is dominating the competition, and making Vanguard counterpicking almost impossible. Wolverine has always been one of the best Duelist picks, if you know how to use him, so this should balance him out.
"In the recently launched Season 3, we observed that Wolverine's new Team-Up Ability with Phoenix has been bringing a bit too much heat to Vanguards," Netease Games writes in the newest Marvel Rivals patch notes. "This duo's combined power has led to battles for Vanguards feeling less like a hero's journey and more like a mutiny, potentially sidelining key Vanguard heroes. To restore balance and keep the fight epic, we're nerfing Wolverine's Team-Up Ability and dialing down his threat level against the Vanguards in this update. We'll keep a close eye on the hero ecosystem and your battles, so stay tuned for more balance adjustments in future updates."
So, how exactly did this happen to one of the best multiplayer games? Well, Wolverine and Phoenix's new team-up ability Primal Flame is already incredibly overpowered. Wolverine is granted the Phoenix Force and can burn enemies and get lifesteal while doing his Feral Leap, and for experienced players, that's quite the one-two punch. Vanguards, Duelists, and Strategists all get shredded to pieces by Wolverine when he's in this state, and considering how often players like to group up, it makes entire teams easy to destroy. If you can get off Wolverine's ult, too, then that's game over.
It's no surprise then that Netase has moved to nerf him. Wolverine's lifesteal healing during this time will also drop from 33% to 25%, which should make this combo much easier to deal with.
Netease is also taking Wolverine's survivability down a notch. His regenerative healing factor cooldown is going from 90 to 105 seconds, while the cooldown reduction from KOs is going from ten to 12 seconds. His berserk claw strike base damage will increase from six to eight, but his percentage damage at max range is dropping to 3.5%.
Netease Games will release the Marvel Rivals Wolverine patch on Thursday July 17.
