New Resident Evil RTS game lets you build your own Spencer mansion, signups open

I'll say one thing for Oswell Spencer: he had a lot of imagination. From the Moonlight Sonata-activated bookcase to the 'end of life' portrait room, the Umbrella co-founder had great taste in interior design, and knew how to orchestrate a boobytrap. With Resident Evil Requiem seemingly marking a return to Raccoon City, Resident Evil Survival Unit, a new spinoff from Capcom's horror series proper, also feels like the perfect opportunity to take a victory lap around RE's best moments. A multiplayer RTS starring Leon, Claire, and Jill, it also lets you build your own Spencer-style mansion from the ground up. It may not be Outbreak 3, but Survival Unit is on the way soon, and you can register today.

The Resident Evil Requiem release date is coming soon, but before that, developers Aniplex and Joycity are taking the series on a small detour. Resident Evil Survival Unit is an RTS game spinoff set in an alternate universe. Now, quick disclaimer: this is only coming to iOS and Android. If it's a hit, maybe it'll get a PC port, like Fallout Shelter, but initially at least this one is mobile only.

If that doesn't deter you, you play a former Umbrella test subject and, after being experimented on for years, you escape from the hospital and start to assemble a team of operatives to take the company down. The gameplay of Survival Unit is twofold. First you need to build a mansion base, constructing new rooms and facilities to house recruits. Second, you take your team on missions to eliminate waves of T-virus monstrosities.

Series icons like Jill, Leon, Claire, Marvin, Kendo, and Alyssa Ashcroft - who seemingly has a major role in Requiem - can all join your squad and each character comes with their own weapons and special abilities. Combat is real time, but rather than aiming and shooting manually, you use on-screen prompts to activate each team member's attacks in rhythm, using one character to attack while the other's abilities are on cooldown.

You can also compete against other players, buy new gear from the Resident Evil 4 Merchant, and complete puzzles that are inspired by some of the series' most recognizable brainteasers. While there's no specific release date, Resident Evil Survival Unit is scheduled to be released before the end of 2025. You can already pre-register for it, though - just head here.
