The fine wine phenomenon appears to have struck the AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT, with new benchmarks across 16 games demonstrating some impressive performance gains. It's only been four months since the RX 9070 XT launched, yet the latest Adrenalin 25.6.3 drivers are already making a difference based on these new tests.

There's no doubt that the AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT earned its spot on our best graphics card buyers guide, with the mid-range AMD GPU delivering impressive performance for its price range. The 64-core RX 9070 XT with 16GB of VRAM launched shortly after the RTX 5070 Ti, and both cards were benchmarked at roughly the same time. Just four months down the line, numerous online users reported that the AMD card was performing better with the latest drivers, which warranted investigation.

To verify these claims, YouTuber Hardware Unboxed retested the AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT and the RTX 5070 Ti under the same conditions as when they first launched. The results support the idea that AMD's drivers are providing a notable boost to the performance of their GPUs, cementing the adage that AMD GPUs age like fine wine.

Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered hasn't received any in-game updates since 2025 began, so the dramatic frame rate gains are almost certainly thanks to AMD's drivers. The RX 9070 XT originally averaged 169fps at 1440p with 1% lows of 125fps. With the latest driver, the AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT now achieves an average of 214fps, with lows of 159fps, an improvement of 27%.

According to Hardware Unboxed's tests, the RTX 5070 Ti actually scored worse in its Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered retest, dropping from an average of 184fps at launch to 172fps as of July 2025.

The AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT, however, almost consistently scored better frame rates or the same as it originally achieved across numerous other games, marking an 18% improvement on Hogwarts Legacy, a 14% improvement on Delta Force, and 23% on Counter-Strike 2.

Despite these promising numbers, there are numerous games that saw no frame rate improvements even with the latest AMD or Nvidia drivers for their respective cards. Star Wars Jedi Survivor, Dying Light 2 Stay Human, and The Last of Us Part 1 all performed just as well back in March 2025 as they did in July 2025.

However, the improvement for AMD's card across all games indicated that the latest 25.6.3 driver outdid the 25.3.1 driver by 4% on 4K, and 9% on 1440p resolutions.
