The Baldur's Gate 3 system requirements are likely now finalized for all time following the release of Patch 8, which Larian Studios says will be the last the game gets. With this final patch, and several previous updates, this legendary RPG is bursting at the seams with content, and yet the actual BG3 requirements remain reasonably accessible.

Having the best graphics card will allow you to render Baldur's Gate 3 in all its splendor with the settings cranked up to the max and with more than a few of the best Baldur's Gate 3 mods installed. However, you can just as easily enjoy this D&D adventure on hardware that is more than a decade old.

Here are the Baldur's Gate 3 system requirements in 2025:

Minimum Recommended
OS Windows 10 64-bit Windows 10 64-bit
CPU Intel Core i5 4690
AMD FX 8350
Intel Core i7 8700K
AMD Ryzen 5 3600
RAM 8GB 16GB
GPU Nvidia GeForce GTX 970
AMD Radeon RX 480
Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 Super
AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT
Storage 150GB 150GB

For one of the best PC games of all time, you won't need a top-tier gaming rig with the best gaming CPU to meet the Baldur's Gate 3 minimum requirements. Processors on par with an Intel Core i5 4690 or AMD FX 8350 will suffice, so long as they're backed up by 8GB of RAM. Baldur's Gate 3, surprisingly, doesn't demand a great deal when it comes to GPUs either, with developer Larian Studios stating that the Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 or AMD Radeon RX 480 are all the game needs, even with 4GB of VRAM.

None of the minimum requirements should pose a challenge to a determined adventurer, as it's all aging hardware available at very cheap prices these days. Just don't expect the best performance if you do try running the game on this level of hardware, as this will likely only net you 30fps at 1080p, or possibly even 720p, on the lowest graphical presets.

It's absolutely worth considering an upgrade to your rig if you want to experience the eponymous city itself on a higher graphics preset, but be warned: the game becomes quite taxing even on high-end rigs when you get to certain areas in the game, and upscaling tech like AMD FSR becomes a must-have.

Unless you've failed a perception check, you'll notice that the Baldur's Gate 3 recommended specs are quite a bit more demanding. You'll need double the amount of gaming RAM, 16GB to be precise, and a hexacore processor akin to the Intel Core i7 8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 if you want to explore Faerûn at its best.

Swapping out your pixel pusher with one of the best graphics cards that mirrors or beats the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 Super or AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT will greatly help improve frame rates and visuals. BG3 also allows you to boost fps with minimal fuss with both AMD FSR and Nvidia DLSS upscaling technologies, which we highly recommend employing in Act 2 and Act 3 of the game's story.

You should be able to manage 60fps on some of the higher settings in 1080p or medium settings at 1440p. If you're looking to run Baldur's Gate 3 at a higher frame rate at 1440p or with ray tracing enabled, you'll probably want to fork out on an RTX 3000 series or AMD 6000 series card.

There are no official Baldur's Gate 3 ultra specs, but we were able to test the game to its very limits with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 GPU, an Intel Core i7-11700F CPU, and a copious 32GB of DDR4 3200MHz RAM. This is, even in a fireball-happy wizard's eyes, complete overkill, but will enable you to turn the game's texture quality up to "Ultra" if nothing else.

A giant adventure almost naturally calls for more storage space than your average RPG, but the Baldur's Gate 3 download size requirements demand a whopping 150GB of storage to install. There aren't any more updates incoming for BG3, but you'll want to reserve even more space on the best SSD for gaming if you're looking to install some mods, or improve your load times.

Having the right hardware is only one part of creating the optimal BG3 experience, so check out our Baldur's Gate 3 settings guide for details on how to maximize performance on PC and Steam Deck.
