New AMD Ryzen CPUs could match or exceed clock speeds of 7GHz, according to the latest rumor, representing a monumental leap over Zen 4 and Zen 5 architecture. Previous rumors suggested that the next-generation of AMD processor would only run with clock speeds greater than 6GHz at a "very" conservative estimate.

A new 52-core Intel CPU is reportedly in the works, putting pressure on AMD to respond with something big. Rumors already suggest that AMD won't be able to meet Intel's high core count, and will max out at 24 cores with Zen 6, and potentially 32 cores with AMD Zen 7. However, where AMD's next-generation CPUs appear to lack in core count compared to Intel's, AMD appears to be making up for it with faster cores.

YouTube tech leaker Moore's Law is Dead (MLID) earlier claimed to have spoken to AMD engineers regarding the AMD Zen 6 CPUs, and claimed that the 6GHz+ rumors were, at the time, "very conservative". Since then, MLID's host has gone on to discuss AMD's Zen 6 architecture with a guest game developer from Alderon Games, and hinted that AMD's Zen 6 CPUs could hypothetically push past 7GHz, though he has repeatedly refused to give an exact number. "I'm not going to say what the number is. It's as crazy as you think it is."

MLID further examined the rumors swirling around Zen 7 architecture, which will allegedly feature Low Power cores using less than a watt of power, "while still technically being full Zen 6".

Assuming that to be true, MLID believes that the Low Power cores could be strong enough for consoles like the Steam Deck or PS6, which is where MLID's magical 7GHz estimate appeared: "Let's say that Zen 6 hits 7GHz or something, is the Low Power core going to still be like 5GHz or 4GHz?"

If the 7GHz rumor proves accurate, as it well might considering the Ryzen 9 7950X exceeded the speeds originally mooted for the Zen 4 design by a long way, it would represent a significant jump in speeds, surpassing the clock speed difference between Zen 3 and Zen 4. Of course, this is all rumor and speculation for a product that might not hit shelves for quite some time, and nothing has been officially confirmed by AMD.
