There are already plenty of great PvE game modes in Warhammer 40k Space Marine 2, but the third-person shooter has just dropped its most challenging and bloodthirsty co-op experience yet. Assemble some of the bravest and toughest Space Marines you know, because Siege mode is here to put an intense, Call of Duty Zombies style spin on things as part of the eighth major Space Marine 2 update.
Space Marine 2 has more than earned its place on our best Warhammer 40k games list. It's visually stunning, joyously brutal, and packed with narrative, PvE, and PvP experiences that cater to all kinds of players. The Emperor smiles upon the folks at Saber Interactive, for they have made an exquisite co-op shooter. Given how much post-launch content has already been added, it's easy to forget that Space Marine 2 isn't even a year old yet, and Patch 8 has now arrived to expand things even further with Siege.
This new PvE horde mode is, technically, endless. A team of three Space Marines is tasked with defending various sections of an imperial fortress from waves of enemies. After every five waves, you'll move to a new part of the fortress that's come under attack. However, with every battalion of Tyranids and Chaos Marines you slay, the difficulty ramps up.
The match doesn't end after a certain time, or after a specified number of waves are completed, or even after reaching a score limit. It'll end once you and your team have finally been overpowered. Or, if you can foresee that the next wave will be too strong for you, you can head to an extraction zone and leave with a stash of Requisition Points, Armoury Data, and XP.
As you rack up kills in Siege, you'll earn points that you can spend at Requisition Terminals. Here you can buy more ammo, equipment charges, healing items, and powerful "reinforcements" such as Cadian regiments or a Dreadnought.
Despite all of Saber's best efforts so far to add challenging new experiences, if you're somehow still finding Space Marine 2 a little too easy, here's the ultimate gauntlet you've been waiting for. Sure, you'll breeze through those opening rounds, but due to its endless nature, you're guaranteed to eventually meet your match.
Warhammer 40k Space Marine 2's brand new Siege mode is live right now as part of a free update to the game.
Alongside the addition of Siege, some more DLC goodies are coming the way of those that have the ultra or gold editions of the game, or bought the season pass separately. The White Scars Chapter Pack includes a new Champion skin for the Assault class, three exclusive weapon skins, and loads of other cosmetics for your Successor Chapters. You'll also get the Blood Angels Cosmetic Pack, which adds three new armor pieces that are compatible with any class in the game, plus "a suite of heraldry symbols and rank markings celebrating eight of the Blood Angels' Successor Chapters."
