In Norse mythology, the number 13’s association with misfortune traces back to a fateful banquet in Valhalla. During this gathering, the trickster god Loki, uninvited and the 13th guest, orchestrated the death of Balder, the beloved god of light and purity. Loki deceived Balder’s blind brother, Höðr, into fatally wounding him with a mistletoe-tipped arrow.
