Trader Joe’s Shoppers Are Stockpiling a Tropical Spread—and It’s Not Mango This Time

The new Trader Joe’s Organic Guava Fruit Spread is causing a stir among fans, and for good reason: Guava isn’t typically easy to find fresh in most U.S. grocery stores. This tart tropical jam is perfect for toast, yogurt, or even more savory options like cheese boards—if you can find it (many stores are already selling out). Here’s the current status of the latest fan favorite, what it’s made from, and how shoppers are using up every last spoonful.

About the New Guava Spread

This popular fruit spread is made with ripe guava from Brazil, cane sugar, and fruit pectin, resulting in a thick red consistency that is tart and tangy. Each jar is 10.5 ounces and costs $3. The spread came to stores initially about a month ago. Unfortunately, its availability is limited to the summer months, and when it’s gone, it’s gone.

Customers have been using the new guava spread in place of typical strawberry or blueberry jam for a more tropical PB&J and have been spreading it onto breakfast staples, like pancakes or waffles. Given the sweet flavor, Trader Joe’s suggests pairing it with more savory dishes like roasted pork tenderloin or a grilled chicken & brie sandwich.

What People Think

Social media has largely praised the tasty spread, as seen in one recent Reddit thread where shoppers quickly chimed in with how they're using their stockpile.

“I picked up a jar last month. Tried it, and went back the next week to grab two more jars,” wrote one commenter. “I hope they last until next summer. So good.”

Another user shared the sentiment, writing, “I should probably add that I have now bought six jars of this. I’ve gone back for more twice. It’s that good.”

Fan shared how they’re folding the jam into everything from breakfast pastries to snacks. Some sweet options included using it as an add-on for iced matcha lattes, mixing it into Greek yogurt, or topping chia seed pudding.

Of course, sweetness is subjective. One shopper found it a bit too sugary and asked how to make the most of the tropical taste. That kicked off a wave of savory suggestions, including:

  • Inside empanadas with mozzarella cheese
  • Layered with goat cheese on the seasonal strawberry jalapeno crackers
  • On an everything bagel with cream cheese
  • Rolled into crescent rolls with cream cheese
  • Simmered into meatballs

Where to Find the Spread

According to Reddit’s photographic proof, the spread is still available at some Trader Joe’s locations as of two days ago.

“I’ve seen people saying their store is out, and it is done for the season. I did confirm today when I went back for a couple more jars that it is unorderable with no return date,”  the poster wrote, adding how it’s still available near them.

Since popping up in May, some shoppers have reported the store sold out of the spread the same day it was stocked. All you can do is head to your local Trader Joe’s and ask for the jam’s status. If it’s sold out, word is it should be stocked again next May. In the meantime, one commenter suggested trying Costco’s similar guava spread.

“Pst… Costco has the EXACT same guava spread—same typeface, same art—just doesn’t say 'Trader Joe's,' and it’s twice as large," the commenter said. "It comes in a two-pack."
