If you've got a Baldur's Gate 3 shaped hole in your heart, Sunderfolk is here to fill it. A new fantasy RPG from former Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime's Dreamhaven, it embraces approachability in a way I really appreciate. Sunderfolk has been out for a little while now, but don't worry if you're yet to try it. The game has a free trial available on Steam right now, and it's the ideal game night activity.

Sunderfolk plays a little differently than the best RPGs on PC. With just one copy of the game, your friends can join for free using their phones or tablets. Suddenly your controller, guidebook, and hand of cards are all easily accessible, giving you that game-night feeling. You get the magic of gathering around a tabletop, but without the incredibly involved setup and packing away.

What about the world of Sunderfolk itself? You're in the cozy village of Arden, where all manner of animals meet. There's a berserker bear, crow arcanist, and even a markhor ranger. Trouble comes knocking, however, and that's why your and your friends need to get ready for battle. With plenty of missions to get through, you'll need to channel teamwork to succeed.

If you've played Baldur's Gate 3, or any turn-based RPG for that matter, you'll be familiar with Sunderfolk. Every time you attack, you draw a Fate Card. These can buff or nerf your character, creating a classic sense of risk-reward to keep battles suitably tense. My colleague Lauren had a lot of fun when playing Sunderfolk earlier this year, if you want to know even more about how it works.

Now that you're ready to jump into the Sunderfolk demo, there's a few things you should know. You and your pals have access to the first four missions, with the entire roster of heroes available throughout. Once you're done, you can continue from where you left off in the full game, so there's no need to start from scratch.

You can try the Sunderfolk free trial right now. If you end up wanting to play the full game it's also 20% off until Thursday June 26, so expect to pay $39.99 / £35.99 until then. Just head here.
