A lot has changed in the industry since Lost Soul Aside's original reveal. Starting development back in 2014, this hack-and-slash action game was later brought into Sony's China Hero Project in 2016, and despite multiple trailers, after all that time, it felt like it would never come. Fortunately, it is finally releasing in just a few months, and you can grab this Final Fantasy-inspired experience at a discount ahead of its launch.
While the upcoming PC games list keeps getting new additions every month, my most anticipated title remains Lost Soul Aside. The PlayStation-published title seems like a big return for those waiting for more hack-and-slash games to arrive, and coming hot off the heels of Stellar Blade, it seems like the genre is making a return the spotlight. That's not even including Tides of Annihilation or Ninja Gaiden 4, both of which are coming up.
However, Lost Soul Aside isn't a simple character action game like Devil May Cry. Instead, it seems like a blend of genres that look to work well together, combining the type of story you'd get from Final Fantasy, combo-heavy combat, and boss fights that will get fans of the best soulslikes excited.
You play as Kaser, who, after spending years in the shadows (alongside his sister Louisa and a group of rebels), attempts to disrupt the Emperor's birthday celebrations and break his cruel, oppressive reign over the world. However, a meteor storm ruins their plans, with Louisa's soul taken in the chaos. Alongside a mysterious new ally, Kaser travels worlds and dimensions in order to bring his sister back.
After playing Final Fantasy 16, which remains one of my favorite ARPGs in recent years, I was hoping for a game that offered a similarly absurd narrative alongside fast-paced combat. Lost Soul Aside looks exactly like that, with even faster and more intense action. Even when I saw it back in 2019 for the first time, I was excited for this fresh take on the hack-and-slash genre, and I can't wait for it to finally release.
If you're just as excited (or intrigued) to play Lost Soul Aside as me, you can pre-order it for just $53.99 on Fanatical. That's a great discount for a game that hasn't even launched yet, and you'll get to play it on release day - probably at the same time as me, as I'm attempting to pull off some cool combos (and probably failing).
Instead of twiddling your thumbs and waiting for Lost Soul Aside after grabbing this deal, there are plenty of new PC games that you should give a try. I'd really recommend giving Final Fantasy 16 a try, if Lost Soul Aside excites you, as it's one of the best RPGs I've played in recent years.
