Squishmallows have been a popular collectible stuffed toy for the last couple of years. While the current trend of collecting these cuddly characters is similar to the '90s trend of collecting Beanie Babies, Squishmallows come in 12 sizes rather than just one. The largest option is 24 inches—so they can take up a lot of space in your home and make keeping them organized challenging.

Whether your kids love to cuddle these soft toys, you enjoy collecting them, or perhaps a little of both, we have storage solutions that save space while displaying your family’s adorable Squishmallows. Whether they’ll be worth selling one day is yet to be determined, but at least you can enjoy them in the meantime without creating clutter!

1. Storage Hammocks

A hammock is a space-saving solution that also adds some whimsy to a room. These hammocks, usually made of fabric netting like macramé, are designed to be hung in a corner or against a wall, creating a cozy nest for your Squishmallows. To install, you'll need sturdy hooks and enough wall space to stretch out the hammock securely. Once it's set up, you can arrange your Squishmallows by size, color, or theme. This method is especially effective for extensive collections, as it utilizes vertical space and frees up floors and furniture. Additionally, hammocks are an affordable way to add a playful element to bedrooms, playrooms, or family rooms.

2. Cube Units

Open cube storage units come in various sizes and are very versatile, particularly for playroom organization. Smaller Squishmallows can be sorted by theme and placed into labeled baskets that fit inside the cubes, while larger ones can be displayed on the top of the unit. If you or your kids only own a handful of small to medium-sized plushies, assign one cube to them so everyone knows where to return them when they’re done playing.

3. Over-the-Door Shoe Organizers

Not just for shoe storage, over-the-door organizers are a clever and budget-friendly solution for storing lots of things, including smaller Squishmallows. Each pocket is perfectly sized to hold a plushie, resulting in a tidy and organized display that’s easy to access. Simply hang the organizer on the back of a door or inside a closet, and you’ll have a space-efficient way to manage your collection. This method is especially useful for kids’ rooms or smaller spaces with limited floor and wall space.

4. Glass Display Cabinets

For more serious collectors who want to showcase their Squishmallows while keeping them protected, glass display cabinets are the way to go. They create a dust-free environment, ensuring your plush toys remain clean and in pristine condition (just in case they are worth something in the future!). To highlight the Squishmallows, consider adding LED strip lights within the cabinet.

5. A Ladder Shelf

Ladder shelves are an aesthetic yet practical solution for storing and displaying Squishmallows. They can either lean against a wall or in the case of A-frame ladders, stand on their own. They feature multiple tiers, making them ideal for arranging the plushies by type. Larger Squishmallows can be placed on the bottom, wider shelves, while smaller ones can be displayed on the higher, narrower ones. The open design of ladder shelves ensures that each Squishmallow is easily visible and accessible. If there’s space, add plants, books, or other decorative items to create a stylized look.

6. Floating Shelves

Hanging shelves is a simple and flexible solution for storing and displaying Squishmallows. Floating shelves allow you to utilize vertical space and create a custom arrangement that suits your collection or the layout of your room. They are available in various lengths and widths and can be installed at different heights to accommodate Squishmallows of all sizes.

Bonus Tips for Squishmallow Storage

  • Sort Squishmallows into categories. Organize your Squishmallows by theme, color, size, holiday, or season to create cohesive, aesthetically pleasing displays.
  • Rotate your Squishmallows. If you have an extensive collection, consider rotating your Squishmallows periodically to give each one its chance to shine. Use the seasons or holidays as an excuse to swap them out!
  • Label your Squishmallows. If you store the plushies in various bins or baskets (such as in a cube unit), label the front to indicate what's inside. This will hide visual clutter but still make your favorite Squishmallow easy to find.
