Just a handful of shortcut ingredients (including lemon-lime soda) ensure these are not only the most delicious fruit dumplings you've ever tried, but they're also the easiest. Apple dumplings are the most traditional, but you can also make this recipe with peaches, plums, and nectarines. If you want the finished dumplings to be even sweeter, combine 1 Tbsp. granulated sugar and 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon. Sprinkle over dumplings after baking.

Ingredients

  • 1 peach, apple, pear, or nectarine or 4 plums

  • 1 (8-oz.) pkg. refrigerated crescent rolls

  • 1/3 cup brown sugar, packed

  • 1/3 cup butter, melted

  • 1/2 cup lemon-lime or citrus carbonated beverage

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 2-qt. baking dish.

  2. Peel fruit, if desired. Pit or core fruit. Cut peach, apple, pear, or nectarine in 8 wedges. Cut plums in quarters.

  3. Unroll and separate crescent rolls. Place a wedge (or two plum wedges) of fruit on the wide end of each crescent roll and roll it up. Place in the prepared dish.

  4. In a small bowl, whisk together brown sugar and melted butter. Pour over the dumplings. Pour carbonated beverage around but not over the dumplings.

  5. Bake 40 minutes or until golden brown.
