2003 FPS Postal 2 is etched onto the annals of PC gaming history, for better and worse. The famously foul first-person shooter from Running With Scissors remains a noteworthy part of the culture, earning itself a controversial reputation and cult following for its blend of brutal action and bad-taste humor. Having been given a 20th-anniversary overhaul two years ago, it's now returning once more, as the studio announces plans for a full remaster.
"This is real, you don't need to adjust your screen," Running With Scissors announces via social media. "Postal 2 Redux is coming to Kickstarter this summer." The preview page for the project describes it as "a ground-up overhaul" of the infamous open-world FPS. "Part modernization, part love letter, Postal 2 Redux will hoist every original asset out of the creaking Unreal 1.5 Engine and slam it into today's Unit, delivering the same familiar week in the Postal Dude's life with a merciless glow-up and a bucket of new toys."
From its lurid employment of bodily waste to the presence of Gary Coleman, Postal 2 is a bizarre and bloody ride. It's also survived its controversies to the point where it's now routinely wheeled out as a curio of early-noughties design; head over to Steam and you'll find it boasting a 96%-positive rating from nearly 100,000 combined user reviews. If the 20th anniversary update wasn't enough to satisfy you, perhaps this more ground-up overhaul will be just what you're looking for.
There's currently no more specific word on when the fundraiser will begin beyond "this summer," but you can follow it on Kickstarter if you want to be notified when it does.
