Stellar Blade PC is already a hit. In less than 24 hours, the new port of the 2024 action game has soared to become Playstation's most-played single-player game by concurrent users, outdoing the likes of Ghost of Tsushima and God of War. Only the multiplayer Helldivers 2, which launched simultaneously with the console version, has the newcomer beat. In even better news for developer Shift Up, Steam reviews are already glowing, praising the port for its excellent performance.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Stellar Blade. As Reid remarks in our Stellar Blade PC review, its flashy presentation and spectacle mask a fairly hollow narrative with writing that largely falls flat. If you're able to put that aside, however, Shift Up has delivered one of the slickest and best action games in years. Immensely rewarding combat, inspired by soulslikes but with the flash of a Bayonetta or Devil May Cry, is wrapped in stunning visuals and a gorgeous, extensive soundtrack that dances between operatic majesty, soothing electronica, and pounding heavy-metal blast beats.
Stellar Blade is more a showpiece than something that will stay with you forever (although large parts of its OST remain on my playlist), but it's certainly one that's worth your time if you're a big stylish-action enthusiast. Clearly a lot of people are, because the Stellar Blade Steam player count has already eclipsed every other Playstation-published PC port except for Helldivers 2, with a current peak just climbing over 100,000 active players making it the biggest single-player game for Sony on the platform.
The Stellar Blade Steam reviews are similarly impressive; so far, with more than 2,500 respondents already, it sits at 96% recommended, earning Valve's coveted 'overwhelmingly positive' rating. Players praise its excellent performance, with smooth frame rates and clean optimization for PC. The Stellar Blade system requirements clock in at a surprisingly reasonable baseline, too, so there's hope for older machines as long as you don't mind turning a few settings down.
Stellar Blade is out now on Steam, priced at $59.99 / £59.99. A free demo is also available if you want to try it first. Download that here, or get the full game if you prefer.
