The Halo Infinite Operation: Legacy event is here, and it's taking us back to the Halo 3 glory days of 2007. Clutch your bag of Doritos and take a swig of that Mountain Dew, because the multiplayer shooter is suddenly brimming with nostalgic game modes, cosmetics, and maps that are sure to transport you back in time. And yes, that means Grifball has returned, too.
Starting now, the Delta Arena: Halo 3 Legacy Playlist is live with old-school ways to play and even older maps. This means 11 classics like Guardian, Narrows, Cold Storage, and Ghost Town are live in Halo Infinite's matchmaking.
But that's not all, oh no. Delta Arena also brings some new settings to the multiplayer game, and I think you're going to like them. In the spirit of old Halo, this playlist includes no sprint or clamber, 120% jump height, friendly player collision, no secondary weapon, and the MA5K Avenger or BR75 Battle Rifle at the start of games.
The fun doesn't end there, though, as Grifball is back, too. With nothing but a gravity hammer, an energy sword, and a dream, it's up to you to grab the ball and throw it in the other team's goal. Halo Studios has even done some extra tuning to make the mode feel truly special.
"To capture the frenzy of traditional Grifball, we've reduced the swing cooldown period for the Gravity Hammer, juiced up the hammer physics, and swapped Energy Swords for the Duelist variant to make use of its long-range feints for dancing," Halo Studios writes. "With these gameplay tweaks baked in, you can control the court with hammer jumps, launch players, pass the ball, have dance duels, and deny goals with timely deflections."
To celebrate Ninja Gaiden 4's launch later this year, the legendary Hayabusa helmet is also making a return. You just need to earn Spartan Points and use them in The Exchange (where you unlock cosmetics simply by playing the game), and then you can have this for yourself. Operation: Legacy's free, 20-tier Operation Pass also comes with the EOD GEN1 armor, which has been faithfully restored to look just like it did in Halo 3.
If you head to the in-game shop, you can also pick up the Rogue, Xantippe, Scout GEN1, and Security GEN1 armor sets, giving you even more classic Halo to play with during this blast from the past.
Halo Infinite's Operation: Legacy event is live now and lasts until Tuesday July 8. You can learn more here.
