Warfame's The Old Peace update is here, capping off a colossal year in the best possible way: more smoochable characters
I've said it before and I'll say it again: Warframe is the most exciting live-service game around. Where the likes of Apex Legends, League of Legends, and Call of Duty have lost their way, Digital Extremes continues to double-down on the space MMO's unique DNA while simultaneously adding new, genuinely exciting features. While its latest update, The Old Peace, is a far cry from the grit and grime of Warframe 1999, there are lashings of Arthur and co.'s adventure in here, with the return of Protoframes and the romance system in The Devil's Triad. The Old Peace feels like an update where old and new collide, and now I can finally get my hands on it.
Creative director Rebecca Ford told me that The Old Peace is "the most soulslike thing" Warframe has ever done, promising a storyline where nothing "is an accident." Paving the way for 2026's highly anticipated Tau update, it adds new story quests, two new modes in the Descendia and Perita Rebellion, brand new 'devilframe' Uriel, and the long-awaited Drifter / Operator overhaul. It's a colossal update to round out the year, and I know what I'll be playing over Christmas.

So let's start with Uriel, the brand new devil-themed, heat-based Warframe (ironic, given that he's named after an archangel). Ford tells me that the team has "always wanted to lean into demon or devil," and that they were inspired by "beautiful pencil sketches from Michael 'Minky' Brennan [Warframe's first art director who passed away in 2024]. He sent over his last sketch that he ever did in pencil for this character."
Uriel's combat abilities are unique, however, with a new movement mechanic that effectively lets him hurtle through the air like a meteor, allowing him to aim glide then return to his eerie, spiraling, misty state. "There's a moment in the quest that I won't spoil, but it demands the fiction of a comet or meteor," she says. "When you're making something, you have one or two things that you won't compromise on. For me, it was this comet/meteor moment." He has three summonable demons that offer various boons, too, and overall looks like he'll be a pretty powerful addition to the roster.
He joins The Devil's Triad of Protoframes, completed by Harrow and Wisp. All three frames are romancable, and there are new KIM system prompts if you fancy a little bit of flirty back and forth. Then there's the Descendia mode, which tasks you with tearing through 21 floors of lethal enemies and getting out alive.
On the slightly more traditional side of things, there's the Old Peace questline itself, as well as the new Perita Rebellion mode. Showcasing echoes of memories from Tau's past, you'll play through three different missions, each of which has their own unique objectives and bosses (which look amazing, by the way). There's a catch, however: there are only 12 minutes on the clock, so you'll have to act fast. Thankfully, you're a space ninja.
Accompanying the main quest are the changes to Focus Schools, with the new Tauron Strike system giving you new, improved, Limit Break-like abilities that look absolutely amazing. You'll need to chat to Marie Leroux (the Wisp Protoframe that you all want to smooch) to pick up Tektolyst Artifacts, then you'll unlock your specific school's Strike.
Then there's the much-requested Drifter/ Operator revamp, which upgrades how both of your characters look. With various new customization options and a visual overhaul, you'll be able to really look your best as you traverse your way through the Origin System. While I have a feeling I'll still be spending most of my time sorting out my fashion frame game, I'm excited to give my characters a much-needed glow up.
There's a whole slew of other content to get through, including the new Bayonet weapon (inspired by classic WWI imagery) and the brand new Gyre Prime. You can check out all of the info here. And, if you're looking to get into the spirit of things, there's an interactive preview you that you can complete ahead of launch to earn yourself a free Honoria (or profile banner). There's no deadline for this, so you can grab at any time.
Warframe's The Old Peace update, which includes the Devil's Triad, as well as the Perita Rebellion and Descendia modes, is out now. Note that you can content skip and play both modes with new players (more on that here), but you'll need to be Mastery Level 10 to enter the content skip queues solo. But, as someone who's spend the past few months really delving into Warframe, however, I'd advise that you do the same.
