Ayaneo is making a new AMD-powered Nintendo DS handheld with an OLED screen

It's official: there's a new Nintendo DS-style handheld gaming PC in town. The new Ayaneo Flip 1S DS, recently teased and now officially unveiled, won't do much to dodge those Nintendo comparisons, incorporating a two-screen display design, built-in keyboard, and game controls.

This new Ayaneo handheld is a refresh of its earlier Flip DS, with a brand-new 7-inch 144Hz OLED major display at the top, coupled with a bigger 4.5-inch LCD display at the bottom. It's fast, too, with a brand new AMD gaming CPU that could make it one of the best handhelds on the market, depending on how well it performs in the real world.

Ayaneo hasn't reinvented the wheel with the Flip 1S DS. As we suspected when the Flip 1s DS was teased by the manufacturer a few weeks ago, it looks a lot like the original, with the dual-screen approach remaining the most obvious feature, albeit with improved screen technology and a larger display area.

Like the original, this is a Windows handheld, powered by the new AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, a flagship AMD handheld CPU that we've seen in some seriously powerful laptops and mini PCs, including in a top-spec Razer Blade 16 gaming laptop, along with the company's own Ayaneo 3 handheld.

Like the original, it also comes with built-in joysticks and gamepads, with improvements made to the feel and accuracy. Ayaneo hasn't confirmed how much RAM or storage the device will hold, only confirming that it'll use LPDDR5X RAM with an M.2 NVMe PCIE 4.0 SSD for storage. There'll also be two USB Gen 4 ports with Type-C connectors for fast charging and data transfers.
