But I'm also a huge fan of Bungie's Destiny universe, so seeing both combined feels like a fever dream that I never want to wake from. Destiny 2 is undoubtedly in a rough spot right now. The Final Shape expansion was a masterful finale to a decade-long narrative thread, but, since then, Bungie has struggled to keep the game from flatlining. The sci-fi themes and space magic make Star Wars and Destiny 2 a great fit, and Destiny 2 Renegades is what happens when the pair clash.

It's not a simple collaboration like you might see in Fortnite, with Darth Vader suddenly appearing to fight your Guardian in some strange meta-bending crossover. Instead, it's a continuation of the Fate Saga that started with the previous DLC, with The Drifter receiving a cryptic warning from the Nine about a new superweapon - the Nightfall Station. That means eventually taking on Dredgen Bael, which seems like a combination of Kylo Ren and Darth Revan.

Despite being a licensed expansion, it's not outright Star Wars. What we get instead is a series of Star Wars-style story beats with a Destiny 2 twist that makes it fit into Bungie's universe. You've got lightsab- sorry, Praxic Blades, and blasters with heat sinks. Overall, it's a short yet solid expansion.

Considering how lacking The Edge of Fate was for Destiny 2, it's no surprise players like me are a bit nervous about the game's future. As someone who prefers to jump in for the DLCs and then leave the grinding for a later date, Destiny 2 Renegades is a fun sci-fi romp that fits surprisingly well into the wider Destiny universe. In all honesty, it makes me wish for a Star Wars Battlefront 3, but that's another rant for another day.
