Lies of P Overture's difficulty to be nerfed, as players struggle with the DLC

While it's supposed to be tough, the new Lies of P Overture DLC might take the challenge too far. A new director's letter from developer Neowiz acknowledges how some parts of the expansion didn't quite turn out as intended, and the team promises that it's looking into potential difficulty nerfs soon. Judging by the community response to this, the main issue is with New Game Plus, which appears to be making the game punishingly unfair.

The new Lies of P expansion is already proving to be a major hit, but that doesn't mean it's without problems. The DLC is far too challenging on some New Game Plus difficulties, veering the soulslike game into unbalanced territory if you're coming to it after multiple runs of the main story. Luckily for us, then, a new director's letter from Neowiz shows the developer is aware of the difficulty issues and is looking into them.

"We want to thank you for all the feedback and suggestions our community has sent us since the launch," Lies of P director Ji Won Choi says. "We're reviewing all of it carefully and are already looking into when to implement some of your suggestions.

"Among all the feedback, we are paying the closest attention to the combat experience. We identified areas that did not turn out quite as we intended. Therefore, we are reviewing various adjustments, including difficulty reduction. However, combat is one of the most fundamental experiences in Lies of P, so any modifications or changes require meticulous work and thorough testing. We are still reviewing the specific details and schedule for a patch, but we want to let you know as soon as possible why it's taking our team some time, and the general direction we're heading."

While Neowiz hasn't committed to what this "difficulty reduction" will mean for Lies of P Overture just yet, it's likely targeting the New Game Plus mode, which players argue is unfairly balanced. Several responses to the Reddit thread under the director's letter say both bosses and normal enemies are killing them in two hits on New Game Plus, making Overture almost impossible.

"All you need to do is make it so I'm not getting two-shot by quite literally every enemy in my New Game Plus DLC run. That's literally it," one user writes. "Legendary Stalker is supposed to be the difficulty the game had before the adjustments. With that being said, the DLC is too difficult. Mobs killing you with two attacks, the bosses, after the first two, have rapid combos that if you don't perfect guard at least half of the attacks insta kill you," adds another.

It's also worth noting that alongside Overture, Neowiz has introduced three difficulty options to Lies of P. So if you've been struggling on New Game Plus, you can at least knock the challenge down a bit before Neowiz's fixes come into play.
