Cyberpunk 2077 hints at new update for fifth anniversary, so here's when you'll need to tune in for more

Cyberpunk 2077 is a comeback story for the ages. While I still don't think it has lived up to the pre-development hype, there's a really solid linear adventure to be found in the gargantuan open world of Night City. The game is now touted as one of the best RPGs ever made, rivaling developer CD Projekt Red's previous effort, The Witcher 3. I still think the Continent has a more believable, living, breathing world and Night City feels a little like a façade at times, but that doesn't stop me from hoping for more adventures in the studio's sci-fi offering.

A cryptic tweet from the developer has fans, myself included, guessing at what could be next for Cyberpunk 2077. After all, we're closing in on the game's fifth anniversary, for PC players at least. Personally, I expected something to celebrate the game's first major anniversary, but we could be in for more than I ever dreamed of.

The post in question says, "Secure comms channel established. Standby for incoming priority transmission." It's accompanied by two character names and dates, and a calendar making things doubly clear. The first date, on Wednesday December 10, is attributed to Cyberpunk 2077 itself. Perhaps we can expect a new trailer? A new area of Night City unlocked?

The following transmissions might provide some insight into the nature of the aforementioned announcement. The second date is Friday December 12, just two days after the initial broadcast, and is said to be from Solomon Reed, Idris Elba's character from the first DLC, Phantom Liberty. Finally, we'll hear from Song So Mi - another character from Phantom Liberty - on Friday December 19.

If this is indeed a teaser for new DLC or an update of some kind, the fact that Solomon Reed and Songbird are hailing us may mean that one of the Phantom Liberty endings may be chosen as the 'canon' ending. Alternatively, they could just be Johnny Silverhand-esque replicas implanted into our brains to wish us a merry Christmas. Who's to say?

I firmly believe that Phantom Liberty is the best campaign that Cyberpunk 2077 has to offer, and any update following on from those events is exciting in my book. But this post is so cryptic, I'm not even sure it is teasing a new update. Whatever CD Projekt has in store, we'll find out more next week.
