New Hollow Knight Silksong update turns to a fan-made mod to solve its biggest remaining problem
A new Hollow Knight Silksong update has just been released, and Team Cherry has finally addressed its most troublesome pain point with the help of modders. After three weeks in testing, Hollow Knight Silksong patch 4 is now live, and it includes a few welcome tool buffs to temper the wrath of a frustrating foe, some additional visual settings, and a handful of bug fixes. But rather than continuing to improve its own Simplified Chinese translation, which drew criticism at launch, the developer has instead turned to fan group Team Cart Fix to ensure one of the best indie games of the year can be experienced as intended by all.
The Chinese localization for Hollow Knight Silksong has been one that's caused much frustration among players, leading to a region-specific review bomb. While Team Cherry had previously attempted to address the issue with a fresh overhaul internally, it's now handed the reins to one of the best Hollow Knight Silksong mods tackling the problem. "Team Cart Fix's translation has been available to the Silksong community (in mod form) for a while now, with many thousands of players having already experienced and praised their work," it says in the new patch notes.

"Their translation builds from elements of the original Silksong translation, retaining existing names for most characters and places, except in instances where the original translation was incorrect, or inconsistent with Hollow Knight," Team Cherry explains. "Most importantly, this is a translation by fans who are well-versed in the (quite dense) narrative and lore of both Hollow Knight games, and understand the subtle links and connections that should be retained in the text. A huge thanks to the team."
Elsewhere, one of the most welcome fixes is for the Multibinder tool, which enables a slower but more potent two-part heal. It'll no longer be slowed down by use of the Shaman crest, and it'll clear those annoying Muckmaggots with the first of its two binds, rather than consuming the full heal. To make dealing with the slimy troublemakers even less of a pain, the Wreath of Purity tool that repels them has also had its durability increased.
Team Cherry has also fixed some problems entering the plasmified state, or having it drop off unexpectedly while travelling. The Fractured Mask will properly protect against volt hazards, the Rune Rage ability's scaling has been corrected, and fury slashes from the Beast crest will now pierce as intended.
There are also a handful of other adjustments, including fixes for Hornet being able to push certain enemies through the floor, or couriers immediately re-offering a delivery that you've just completed. Controller support has been moved to the Unity Input System, which should improve performance on some of the best PC controllers. This includes getting rumble features working that were previously disabled. Finally, you'll find new visual settings for additional dithering (defaults to 'low') and film grain (defaults to 'off').
Hollow Knight Silksong patch 4 is live now for all PC players. You can read the full patch notes courtesy of Team Cherry for a breakdown of individual changes. The studio also notes that there may be a handful of remaining controller issues, or requirements to update your drivers, and includes some additional guidelines for that. As I wrap up the final stages of Silksong, it's rapidly rocketed up my game of the year list, so I'm glad more people can now enjoy it to the fullest.
