Motorola might be onto something with its iPhone Air challenger

Apple's iPhone Air and Samsung's Galaxy S25 Edge changed the smartphone game by giving up camera power and battery life for an extremely thin body.

Motorola's take on the thin phone idea, the new Motorola Edge 70, is incredibly simple — the phone is very thin, but has a triple camera, a large battery, and a fairly low price.

Check the specs: The Edge 70 has a 6.67-inch P-OLED display, a dual 50-megapixel camera on the back, a 50-megapixel selfie camera on the front, and a respectable 4,800mAh battery that's good for up to 38 hours of mixed usage (according to Motorola).

What makes the Motorola Edge 70 really interesting is how thin it is. At 5.99 millimeters of thickness, it's very close to Apple's iPhone Air, which measures 5.6 millimeters at its thinnest point.

The fact that this is a mid-range phone is revealed in the chip that powers it, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 coupled with 12GB of RAM and 256/512GB of storage.

But the whole package doesn't sound too shabby, given that you basically get a full-featured phone that also happens to be thin. The Motorola Edge 70 cheats a little on the camera front, as it appears to have three rear cameras, but it really only has two (one wide and the other ultra-wide). Other than that, it's hard to find too many faults with its specs. It has fast, 68W wired charging, 15W wireless charging, water resistance up to IP68/IP69 standard and, as is customary these days, a bunch of AI features including image enhancement, visual search, and AI-based image creation, among others.

All of this hits even harder when you consider the price of the Motorola Edge 70, which starts at €799 in Europe and can get significantly lower in some markets thanks to early bird discounts. For reference, Apple's iPhone Air starts at about €1,199 in Europe, while the Galaxy S25 Edge is even pricier at €1,369 (note that the prices vary by market).
