Creators have brought their favorite shows, games, and films to life through incredible creations for one of the best PC games. There has been a Minecraft Hogwarts map, The Titanic, and even a recreation of Lord of the Rings' Middle-earth. It's no wonder some of the best Minecraft city maps are based on iconic locations, such as Gotham and King's Landing, and are now available to explore in the crafting game, alongside those inspired by bustling real-life destinations like Sydney and Seattle.

Minechester

The fictional city of Minechester seems inspired by many real cities across the globe, and its skyscrapers, supermarkets, and stadium are just a few of the incredible buildings to explore.

What makes Minechester truly incredible is the interactive and immersive nature of the build, encouraging you to fully explore the lore of the city and discover the secrets of Minechester City's vast history.

Midtown Manhattan

This truly inspiring build by Bas Verhagen is one of the most detailed Minecraft cities we've seen to date, based on the real-life Manhattan in New York City, USA. What makes this build truly remarkable is the attention to detail inside the buildings, as many of the well-known locations have been fully kitted out inside and out. Meanwhile, you can even head to the roof of some buildings, checking out the incredible view of New York from the highest heights.

Abandoned city

This gorgeous abandoned city by Viator on Reddit might have been built from predominantly grey blocks, but it still oozes color, vibrance, and – surprisingly – life thanks to the lush green flora covering its derelict buildings. It's hard to show you the extent of what's waiting for you in an image, so take a look at the video over on Reddit, which shows the inside of a desolate mall, shattered walls, and lonely streetlights in the light of day and the dull glow of a rainy night. There's something quite romantic about being the only person roaming around a deserted, overgrown city in the rain.

This isn't an open map to explore, but might inspire the desire to build your own The Last of Us-like, post-apocalyptic city in Minecraft. 

Mattupolis

Mattupolis is an ever-growing stream of skyscrapers and intricately designed bustling streets. Creator Matias draws inspiration from Seattle and Vancouver with his desire to connect urban environments and natural scenery. Mattupolis is an oasis of high-rise towers, districts with distinct feels, and even landmarks you can marvel at, such as the Seattle Space Needle.

Greenfield

Greenfield by The Jestr is one of the largest cities in Minecraft, and the most extensive too. You can spend ages wandering through the different areas from the financial district to the city port brimming with containers. There's incredible city detail in Greenfield from cramped residential houses, to a skyline of cranes, and a maze of trains.

King's Landing

If you're missing Game of Thrones, or want a chance to relive the epic fantasy, this King's Landing map by WesterosCraft is a replica of the city hosting the Iron Throne. It includes all the landmarks you'd expect from The Great Sept of Baelor to The Red Keep. So, you can wander the streets of King's Landing without all the maiming and bloodshed the series is known for.

Novigrad

This Novigrad-inspired town by ElysiumFire might not be the slick urban sprawl of other Minecraft cities in this list. However, with its impressive architecture, tight alleyways, and medieval red-roofed buildings, it's still a glorious sight to behold in blocky vision. Novigrad is a homage to The Witcher 3, although not an exact replica, it does embody the vibrancy and medieval feel of this extended fishing village, complete with a cathedral and port.

Sayama City

This modern Japanese city has been in construction for years and has been the most widely talked about Minecraft city due to its absurd attention to detail. When images were first released of Sayama City by SayamaCityProject, we were astounded by its realism and how well it captures the aesthetic of Japanese cities, inspired by locations such as Tokyo and Osaka.
