Warframe's latest collaboration is with D&D's sci fi rival, and I've already added those dice to my cart

My TTRPG obsession is relatively well documented at this point. If I'm not rolling bestial failures in Vampire: The Masquerade, I'm using Mage Hand to cause chaos in Dungeons and Dragons as an aasimar bard with an inspiration problem. Back at TennoCon 2025, Digital Extremes revealed that Warframe was teaming up with Paizo to create a 1999-themed one-shot for Starfinder, Pathfinder's sci-fi sibling. Dropping just in time for Halloween, you can pick up Operation Orias right now, as well as some snazzy looking dice that are a must-have for goblins like me.

If you haven't heard of Starfinder (or even Pathfinder, how dare you), both games are based on Dungeons and Dragons' third edition and use the traditional D20 system you see in the likes of Baldur's Gate 3. Where Pathfinder has a high fantasy feel, Starfinder is a space game through and through, with some lashings of magic sprinkled throughout. It's also getting a brand new virtual installment, Starfinder: Afterlight, sometime in 2026.

The Warframe collab makes a lot of sense, then: Digital Extremes' sprawling MMO takes place in, well, space, with the Duviri Paradox providing a good dose of fantasy, too. Operation Orias, however, is set in the game's 1999 universe: a gritty, Metal Gear Solid-style world that I feel in love with two years ago. Letting you play as four Protoframes (humans who have been infected with the virus that created the Warframes), Operation Orias is a short, one-shot adventure that I can't wait to dive into.

Operation Orias' premise is relatively simple: the Corpus is causing trouble, and you need to put an end to it. Having captured a pack of Infested Chargers, dog-like monsters that carry the deadly Infestation virus, the Corpus is hoping to create a new medicine using their tissue - a medicine that would make their agents more immune to toxins. Given that this would give the faction a huge boost in battle, as well as earning them huge stacks of cash, its The Hex's job to stop them in their tracks.

You can choose between four Protoframe 'classes:' Amir, Aoi, Arthur, and Lettie. Amir's playstyle is described as "hit and run," Aoi is "focused on communication and situational awareness," poster-boy Arthur is "reckless" and uses his longsword as his primary weapon, and Lettie functions as the squad's medic, with abilities that "support her allies." While these are Operation Orias' starting characters, community developer Connor Neumann told me that he hopes players "work with [their] DM to create and play [their] own fictionalized Protoframe within whatever universe [they] want."

But this is a Warframe module: it has to mirror the game's fast-pace and unrelenting action. A quick scan of the rule book (sent to me by Digital Extremes) shows that every character can Bullet Jump (leap 25 feet then freefall), with several iterations on the game's classic Energy Shield popping up, too. You can easily transfer these across to other potential Protoframes, and given that all of the characters' abilities are inspired by their in-game ones, it's merely a case of getting creative with your DM to bring your own characters to life.

While I'm a big D&D lover, I've never ventured into the Starfinder foray, but Operation Orias feels like the perfect excuse to do so. You can pick up your copy here ($12.99 for physical, $8.99 for the PDF), but note that physical copies are limited to 2,000 prints. You'll also get a Starfinder-inspired glyph with your purchase.
