The classic pairing of chocolate and almond shines in these easy-to-make bonbons. Start by wrapping a smooth almond paste center with a rich chocolate cream. For an extra touch of chocolate flavor, finish the bonbons with a 4-ingredient glaze. Top with colorful sprinkles for a touch of holiday cheer.

Ingredients

  • 1 (12-oz.) pkg. semisweet chocolate chips (2 cups)

  • 1/4 cup salted butter

  • 1 (14-oz.) can sweetened condensed milk

  • 1 tsp. vanilla

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 (8-oz.) pkg. almond paste (made without syrup or glucose)

  • Sprinkles (optional)

Chocolate Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar

  • 2 Tbsp. unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla

  • 6 to 8 tsp. milk

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line cookie sheets with parchment paper. In a medium saucepan combine chocolate chips and butter. Cook and stir over low until melted and smooth, 3 to 4 minutes. Remove from heat. Whisk in sweetened condensed milk and vanilla. Gradually stir in flour.

  2. For each bonbon, shape a 2-tsp. portion of dough around a ½-tsp. portion of almond paste to fully enclose. Place 1 to 2 inches apart on prepared cookie sheets.

  3. Bake until soft and shiny, 6 to 8 minutes (do not over bake). Transfer to a wire rack; cool completely.

  4. Make the glaze. In a small bowl stir together powdered sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, and vanilla. Stir in enough milk (6 to 8 tsp.) to make brushable glaze consistency.

  5. Brush chocolate glaze over bonbons. Place on wire rack set over waxed paper. Decorate with sprinkles. Let stand until set, about 15 minutes. If you like, serve in bake cups.
