Social media offers no shortage of trending aesthetics and “cores” to inspire your lifestyle, wardrobe, and home decor. At BHG, we’ve noticed food-inspired aesthetics are of particular interest lately, with trends like "tomatocore" and the "vanilla girl aesthetic" taking over our feeds over the past few years.

And this summer, the rise in food-themed trends is not set to change. Based on our research, we’re officially calling the summer of 2025 “lavender girl" summer. So what is the lavender girl aesthetic, exactly? Let us explain.

  • Tye Davis is the founder and principal designer of Tye Interior Design, a residential interior design firm based in Southwest Florida.
  • Kathy Kuo is the founder and principal designer of Kathy Kuo Home, a premier e-commerce destination and interior design service.

What Is the Lavender Girl Aesthetic?

Meet the lavender girl. She’s refined yet earthy, whimsical with a sophisticated edge. You’ll find her sporting an airy linen dress, gold jewelry, and an unfussy (yet carefully curated) hairstyle and beauty routine. She loves to garden and is particularly fond of hardy, low-maintenance plants like lavender, of course. Her home is inviting and comfortable, yet effortlessly chic; it has an old-world European flair with modern touches. Vintage furniture and decor are accented by clean lines and rustic touches. Think of a blend between cottagecore, French country, and soft minimalism

While this style is somewhat minimalistic, it’s anything but cold and sterile. It simply elevates the essential, creating spaces that feel calm, warm, and curated. The lavender girl is constantly inspired by nature, leaning towards organic materials and shapes wherever possible and always looking to bring the outdoors in. And the finishing touch in any room is a vase of freshly picked seasonal flowers (especially lavender).

How to Embrace Lavender Girl Summer at Home

The most important thing when embracing the lavender girl aesthetic is to avoid taking the trend too literally. While a vase of freshly picked lavender is cute and on-trend, an excess of lavender-printed textiles or lavender-colored accents in a space is kitschy and totally off-brand for the lavender girl.

Less Is More

“The lavender girl summer aesthetic translates beautifully into home design when approached with a 'less is more' mindset," says Tye Davis, founder and principal designer of Tye Interior Design. "It’s not about overwhelming a room with a purple tone. Rather, it’s about capturing the mood of serenity, softness, and romance."

This can be done in various ways, from paint to decorative accents like linens, ceramics, and more. A few key principles can help guide you as you embrace the lavender girl look. First, using natural materials is key. Think light-toned wood, linen, cotton, stone, and more. Vintage accents sporting a natural patina also make great additions to the space, according to Kathy Kuo of Kathy Kuo Interior Design. Add cozy yet refined touches, such as a lavender-scented candle or an heirloom vase filled with freshly picked lavender.

Work in Timeless Pieces

“With any seasonal trend—like lavender girl summer—my first recommendation is to work in decorative accents and versatile elements that can be used within your existing home aesthetic so that you're not contributing to the 'fast furniture' cycle or over-extending your wallet,” Kuo says. “That said, the lavender girl look is a really fun and feminine extension of the time-tested French Country look. Draw inspiration from the natural beauty of the famous Provençal lavender fields and the effortless elegance of classic European decor motifs.”

Blend the Indoors and Outdoors

Lastly, work to create a space that transitions seamlessly from indoors to outside. The lavender girl loves to spend time outside enjoying the warm summer days (and nights). Even if you only have a small balcony to work with, a comfortable and relaxing outdoor space is key to embracing the gentle serenity of the lavender girl aesthetic. Of course, don’t forget to finish off the look with a potted lavender plant or two!

Tomatocore

If the summer of 2025 is all about the lavender girl aesthetic, the summer of 2024 leaned heavily into the tomato girl aesthetic—aka tomatocore. This summery trend started on TikTok, and is characterized by neutral colors, woven textiles, vintage accents, mixed metals, and bold pops of primary colors (yes, tomato red included!). The result is old-world Euro-inspired and quintessentially summery—just like a freshly picked tomato.

Lemon Girl Aesthetic

Similarly, the TikTok "lemon girl aesthetic" was all the rage in the summer of 2023. It’s characterized by bright, zesty hues, airy linens, wicker accents, and a subtle Mediterranean influence. While it originally started as a fashion trend, its core principles translate easily into the home.

Pops of lemon yellow, light and airy neutrals, natural materials, and a touch of European flair will readily bring this trend to life in your decor.

Butter Yellow Trend

"Butter yellow" is everywhere, from fashion to makeup to decor and everything in between. The soft hue can be incorporated into your home in various ways, depending on your commitment level. Paint is a great way to transform an entire room, but you can also stick to more temporary pieces of decor, such as linens (curtains, throw pillow covers, bedsheets, etc.), artwork, or even a simple vase of florals.

Unlike some of the other food-related aesthetics on this list, the butter yellow trend is specific to the hue itself. However, due to its food-adjacent name and widespread popularity, we think it still deserves a place on this list.

Cinnamon Girl Aesthetic

Inspired by the Lana Del Ray song “Cinnamon Girl,” this cozy, warm, and seasonally moody aesthetic is perfect for transitioning your home from summer to the cozier fall and winter seasons. Like most lifestyle trends, this aesthetic started in the fashion world, characterized by chunky knit sweaters, leather accessories, warm shades of brown, and other earthy colors.

Cinnamon girls are effortlessly chic and timeless, but above all, cozy. You’ll often find them deep in their favorite book with a warm drink in hand (coffee or a chai latte, of course). They love quintessential fall activities like pumpkin picking and baking, and have an enduring love for all things quaint and vintage.

This aesthetic can be brought to life in the home using earthy fall-inspired colors, soft textures, lots of layers, and warm touches—a knit throw blanket here, a piece of vintage furniture there. Don’t forget to delight the senses with some seasonally appropriate candles in scents like cinnamon, apple pie, spiced pumpkin, and more.

Vanilla Girl Aesthetic

The vanilla girl aesthetic is similar to the ever-popular “clean girl aesthetic.” Its characteristics include minimalism, clean lines, light neutral colors, and understated elegance. The vanilla girl aesthetic is brought to life in home decor using soft, muted colors and plenty of creamy whites.

Visual clutter is minimal, with only the essentials left on display. That means functional storage is heavily relied on to keep the clutter and extra stuff safely tucked out of eyesight. Elegant accents put the finishing touches on this look. For example, a mirrored makeup tray with a stylish perfume bottle on top of the dresser, a thoughtfully placed tapered candlestick, a gold rimmed mirror—the options are truly endless!

Garden Girl Aesthetic

The "garden girl aesthetic" is perhaps one of the biggest and most timeless trends on this list. It’s all about bringing the outdoors in, celebrating nature, and embracing slow living. You’ll find this aesthetic everywhere, from fashion and beauty to lifestyle trends and home design. However, the garden girl aesthetic shines brightest in interiors, offering timeless appeal and mindful, nature-inspired spaces.

To bring this aesthetic home, incorporate plenty of natural materials, greenery (in-season produce and herbs are a practical option), botanical prints, and other nature-inspired elements. According to designers, the goal should be to create a seamless transition between your indoor and outdoor spaces, allowing the calm and tranquility of nature to infuse your interior.

Jam Girl Summer

Jam is having a moment across social media (yes, the sweet preserve). So much so that the BHG editors coined “jam girl" summer as a trend to watch this year. You only need to look as far as Meghan Markle’s newest jam line selling out in under an hour to see what we mean. So, what exactly is the jam girl summer aesthetic? It’s a trend that celebrates a slower, more intentional way of living. Think of it as a subset of cottagecore or the farm girl aesthetic. Jam girl summer celebrates old-world traditions often associated with homesteading, such as growing your food, cultivating gardens, raising chickens, baking and cooking from scratch, and yes, making jam.

At home, jam girl summer can be celebrated in many ways. In addition to growing berries and making homemade jam, you can decorate with the iconic gingham pattern, repurpose jam jars throughout the home (think vases, drinkware, and more), and plan jam-infused events.
